Just a word of caution: I have been buying these filters (I use #1) since I got the fridge in 2013 and have ordered from every place you can think of (Amazon direct, 3rd party Amazon sellers, Whirlpool direct, Sears, Newegg, everydrop direct, filtersfast.com, discountfilters.com, ebay, Best Buy, Home Depot) because it kills me to pay $60/filter. The ONLY places that have not been counterfeit filters are direct through everydrop. You can tell it's counterfeit if the filter does not push a ton of air through the dispensing system when you first install it and start flushing with water. Apparently (please google it) there is a massive counterfeit water filter operation coming out of China and it's in every company out there.

Great question, yes I contacted every company and was issued a refund. I think only one of the companies asked for the filters back. It was almost like the rest of them knew it was a problem and didn't even push back. Check reviews on whirlpool site for their whirlpool brand filters, absolutely abhorrent.

To your flushing comment, I was only referring to when the filter is first installed and the first time water runs through it. There should be a bunch of air pushed through your system if it's genuine. Then you have to run several gallons of water through it to remove the grey/black water as the carbon filter "dust" gets flushed out. I have noticed the counterfeits don't have either of those two things happen.

just installed my first #6 filter. bought from whirlpool.com. got some air pushed through the system on the first press. so that passed your first check. not sure about the 2nd check. nowhere on the airfilter package mentioned about running a couple gallons to flush the dust. i only did about 20 oz. is it enough?
