For the occasional Saturday car wash user like me, I'm having trouble justifying the cost.

Are just body shop people using this?

I've been using a corded porter cable DA for the longest time. Bought this M18 buffer to ditch the cable that I constantly have to throw over my shoulder and the extension cord that follows me around the garage. A polisher will take out light scratches and etching from grime and bird poop. Polishing by hand doesn't even compare.. it's the power of 10x hands. Plus the heat it generates helps smooth out the paint... something you can't do by hand.

Standard practice for a daily driver is 2 wax jobs a year. And if you have multiple cars you're getting multiple uses a year. If you're not at this level of meticulous with your car's paint or you regularly do drive through car washes, then probably not for you.

Not a professional detailer but I've picked it up last time there was a sale. I absolutely love using it. Easy and smooth to use, but I don't have a point of comparison to say it's the best. Cordless is a very nice option but I went through four 6.0 batteries to compound and polish my SUV.

This tool is incredible. Game changer vs my corded unit.

The 15mm refers to the throw of the DA (dual Action, AKA random orbit)- there are 3 general sizes, a short throw (8- 10mm), a medium throw (12-15mm) and a long throw (21mm.) Think of it as the radius of the random orbit. Short is the least aggressive and so on. These generally are for paint correction (removing scratches and perfecting the paint. If you're looking for something to apply glazes and waxes get an short throw. Easier to handle, cheaper and less likely to get yourself into trouble if you've never polished pain before. This one is great for a pro detailer or serious driveway detailer.

How does the hack work? I click the link and it's $299 with no battery.
