I've read mixed things.
Most important... DON'T UPDATE FIRMWARE if you want to use refilled / generic ones.

I just picked one up from the store, and it prompted me to update the firmware, so I hope I have one that will work with refilled/reset/generic ones.
eBay/Amazon sell the generic / refills and this ink is specific to only a few printers.

I purchased the $199 one because I like 2 trays of paper.
Also got the 3 year warrantee because I don't think it will last that long, turning this into a $40 purchase in the long run.
Edit to say each seller has a different price and length of protection. This was from Office Depot... I needed to spend $10 to return my ink this month LOL

I have a single use plan for this (print large envelopes) so if it doesn't work, it will all go back to the store.

Another note that I read about this printer is to use the provided software, and not let windows install it automatically.

Can confirm. Have the 7820, updated firmware and all of my carts are now junk. $45 for XL generics, $140 (Staples price with MD tax) for XL originals. Not a fan of this printer.
