That said I was spending time looking at the same model both on Reverb and GC, and there are used examples with lower prices:

https://reverb.com/item/73638522-...-tiger-eye $800 + $30 shipping, this one's in mint condition but it is secondhand.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, you can also price match this guitar at other retailers since Impulse Music is an ESP authorized dealer.
If you've got a local one nearby. No risk minus eating the shipping cost of $25 or whatever the used cost is to ship. Buy it, if it wicks, return it to the local store.

I'm not really in need of another LTD EC either, but they are great guitars. Someone else can get a real kick out of that deal instead of myself.
I like the SS frets, Fishman pickups, flame maple (does not appear to be veneer either) but I have the same issue with Strandberg - I just feel like I'm not getting a good deal paying this much for a guitar made in Indonesia.

To run counterpoint, I was actually looking at those Dean multiscale kahler guitars that went on a huge discount at PAS. I was contemplating sharing those deals here because on paper they sounded great -- made in Korea, USA Kahler trem, multiscale, SD Sentient/Nazgul pickups, it's highly spec'd out. But this youtube review [youtube.com] kind of confirmed my suspicions on the poor QC. I would be furious if that's what I received for even a third of the asking price. Frets not level, nut cut incorrectly, dry fingerboard, neck pickup mounted too high, loose screws in the trem... I don't even remember the rest of it. Nothing a luthier can't fix but it's extremely disappointing.
All that said It's probably an apples to oranges comparison given I'm comparing ESP, a company doing very well, to... well, Dean. If we're talking about COO Godin makes some awesome stuff for the money and it's all made in Canada.
