    Just like with other more expensive knives, the cost is due to the quality of steel (forged German stainless in this case), brand reputation (wusthof has been making quality knives for over 200 years) and overall quality of the knife. It will last a lifetime if taken care of properly and hold an edge better than cheaper knives/steel.

    Britney jokes aside, this is a fine knife of good quality. Is it worth $69.00? Two years ago the price was $63.95, and from Sep 2019 to Jan 2020, the price was $49.95
    I'd argue that for most people this $17.99 Ikea knife is just as good:

    Wüsthof knives use X50CrMo14, whereas Ikea's uses nearly identical X50CrMo15 steel.
    The 14 vs. 15 is the percent of Chromium in metal.
    Both full tang, Ikea's knife technically is an even more robust one-piece design.
