These are forged and not stamped, so I'd say they're the better of the lower quality line-up. At $80 for 7 knives you can't be expecting handcrafted Damascus steel from Japan.

I'd say it's a decent starter set if you're still cutting raw meat with a stolen steak knife from the campus cafeteria

I appreciate the heads up, saves me from having to read more drivel from others that don't have any contribution to make regarding a purchasing decision.

I don't get these blocks that don't contain steak knives. Where are people storing their steak knives? For some reason these get put on display but steak knives get relegated to a drawer? I use a magnetic holder so everything is just there and easy to grab.

steak knives are like forks and spoons. you dont store those in the block. unless your living all by youself with 1 set of steak knife and fork

That's so weird to me. I've never seen anyone store their steak knives in their silverware drawer.

where are you storing them now? in your special 3d printed knife block?
On the magnetic 'block' I got from amazon. It's all stainless steel with a small wood base. It's actually dope looking and easy to clean unlike a regular wooden block.

Yeah the strip kind only seem good if you have a bunch of space on the wall. Idk how I feel about having to get into a cabinet to get a knife.

I have a mix of these knives and my higher end German & Japanese knives. I'm still grateful for having purchased these when I need a small boning knife or bread knife.
I maintain and sharpen them as I do my "good" knives and they are very good. For someone particular like me I can tell a difference, but to most people these will be a tremendous grade over the hodgepodge drawer of stamped IKEA knives.

Get a tool and put it to work.

I'd buy this set at this price no problem if I needed the knives. I don't normally associate steak knives with kitchen knives, but some better steak knives can be quite expensive, suitable for block storage, and I think that adding them to budget sets gives the knife set a higher end look. Aside from that, the steel looks fine, they'd be easy to sharpen and there's more than enough value in just the primary prep knives to justify the cost.

I have a very eclectic mix of knives and it's no small source of consternation that my go-tos are often older knives I picked up in thrift stores and rarely the BD1Ns, Wusthofs, etc. My current favorite is a half-tang molybdenum slicing knife I bought for a buck that if I recall correctly people sold from the trunks of their cars back in the 1980s.

Fwiw if you look in any restaurant kitchen you'll see stamped knives (e.g. Victorinox Fibrox) because they're cheap, reliable, and low maintenance. You don't want to be out $250 on a high carbon forged knife that gets "lost" at the sharpeners' (unless you really need it for something like sashimi). All that to say: these knives are plenty high quality for anything you'll do in the kitchen.
