I'm no conspiracy nut but what is the profit motive here? If I go and get 2 "free to me" vaccines (Covid and Flu) not only do I get the vaccine for free, they PAY me $20 per vaccine. I'd like to see how this works on the back end Walgreens side. How much are THEY paying for the vaccines, what Federal/State governmental incentives are they being provided for etc. You cannot run a business for long where you give your product away AND PAY people to take it without some substantial alternative funding sources.

To give you an idea of their potential costs, Medicare is allowing about $40 a shot in 2023 for the Covid vaccine and they will pay $36 for administration of the shot for a total of $76. Retail price of the Covid vaccine is between $120 and $130.

They're saying have the catalina coupon scan with the items you're paying, not at the end of the transaction when it's processed.
Thanks. They didn't give me any coupon when I checked out for vaccine. Nothing printed out. I am glad customer service just gave me the credit without any hassle because I did not do anything the instructions suggested.

Now I just have to figure out what to buy at overpriced Walgreens with the coupon

They are getting paid for the vaccine. Also, people are walking into store to get vaccine so that is store traffic which leads people to buy things. Plus its rewards money so most wont spend exactly $20, many people may not use it at once and spend over. There profit margins are other stuff is so high. Its like a loss leader at a supermarket

The spike protein the vaccine puts into your body isn't worth the $20 to me, especially since the current versions of covid are less severe than a cold. Also, I've read that the latest covid vaccine is an iteration behind and won't stop this year's covid version.

On my Walgreens receipt the Covide booster (Moderna SpikeVAX 12+ Covid 23-24PFS, senior) showed Retail price $184.99.

My Walgreens did not have the printer and I had to call 1-800-WALGREENS to get credited the bonus (I was asked for the RFN#).

The new vaccine (Pfizer) is priced at $120-$130. The earlier one was around $20-30. The reimbursement rate for the new vaccine will probably reflect the higher price, and they get $36 for five minutes of work. Private insurance will also pay the higher rates for the new vaccine.

What do you mean by cat scanned?
the coupon that spits out of the machine at pharmacy, it is called a catalina machine, those print outs are nicknamed 'cat or cats'.

Check if terminal can print coupons only worked on one and had to get manager override as coupon didn't print
Where is the override occurring? At the regular checkout at front of the store after you pick out $10 of stuff to buy after you got your shot?

Government pays PFE $21 per Covid dose. Since the government is paying for the shot (no insurance required), WAG probably splits the cost 50/50 ($20 to customer/$20 to corporate).

I went to Walgreens pharmacy today after work for Covid (new vaccine) and flu shot. I made the reservation online and got my vaccines with little wait time. Pharmacy tech gave me 2 printed coupons for $20 rewards w/ $1+ purchase after I checked in for my appointment. After reading the fine print on the $20 coupon, it did state that it's limit 3 per person. I got two today, but the promotion ends tomorrow. I could easily get a third vaccine for something else (I work in public schools)… so I'm debating on going back Saturday for a third vaccine and a third coupon for $20 rewards. Hmm 🤔 ..

I only did flu . I dont want to do Covid and Flu at same time. I feel like the body needs to deal with one at a time. So yeah, perhaps the deal will only be $10 next , thats fine

My Walgreens was so unorganized. Four people waiting for vaccine. I stood at the country for near ten minutes and just eventually left.

Pharmacist had to run it through a second time after I asked about the coupon, but I got it.

Thanks OP. I used the link to schedule both the COVID and Flu shots at the same time; they ran them both in the same transaction. It triggered 2 Catalina coupons. Then I did 2 separate $1+ transactions each using a Catalina Q and received a total of $40 in my Walgreens cash account for future purchases.
