My AAA office in N. CA (25 year member) quoted me on a 2023 Tesla 3 $2,295. a year with $1,000 deduct and having 2 other vehicles with them and also having AAA home owners insurance. I'm also looking at a new 2023 Subaru Outback and that annual cost is $1,295 a year..big difference. I had the hots for a 3, but it's fading away after a test drive, the lack of service centers and long waits to have any repairs done. Btw, my driving record is clean.

Last forever? LMAO Found the Tesla fan boi.
These things come new with steering wheels that fall off, brake pads not installed, etc.
That's poor QA not a testament of their engineering efforts

I have had a Mach-EV for about two years now. The overall build quality as well as the tech seems better than Tesla. It has Apple CarPlay support which is awesome. And has Bluecruise hands free driving that is 1000x more reliable than Tesla's autopilot or FSD. Hyundai makes good EVs too. You may want to check out and test drive the non-Tesla EVs yourself to compare.
And please stay away from Reddit's /r/electricvehichles subreddit for any advice. I am convinced that place is run by Tesla shills.

Tesla is going to price out the competition. Not a fan of Teslas due to the cheap feeling interior, but you can't deny the price, EV range, and leader in EV.

At some point, competitors will have to drop price.
They can't.

Ford loses 60k per EV sold

Rivian loses 33k per EV sold

GM says they won't make money on EV's until 2025

I did, no bueno. Estimated hold time was 50 minutes. One would think they could afford to hire some more people at the 3rd world call centers.

I'm on that boat, driving 60 city miles per day. Other than the 3 cars you mentioned, any other suggestions? Should I consider used ones as well? TIA
I own a Leaf. The car has been manufactured for the last 14 years and there are still a few Gen 1 cars on the road despite the outdated battery tech.
If you are already going to get a cheap car like a Leaf or bolt, best to get a new EV with them. You get the best battery and can drive it easily for 200k over the next 15 years, mostly maintenance free.

Any link for this?
How can Ford loses 60K per EV if the EV itself is less than 60k?

I worked at tesla for a few years and can say that as far as vehicle build quality goes YMMV. Some people get cars that are perfect for the entirety of its life, some people are bringing their cars to service every couple months in the beginning for minor issues (alignment, creaking, glitch). Of course this has been happening a lot with tesla, but to some extent this is a gamble you play with any car you buy.

Same goes for longevity of the car. Ive seen people need battery replacements under warranty with less than 50k miles, and some people going strong upwards of 300k miles.

I dont quite understand the whole commotion between ev and ice. Most people buy a car to get you from point A to B, some more comfortable than others. They both have their purpose depending on what someone is looking for in a car. Theres no car that can really hit everyones boxes, but model 3/y do hit alot considering the current price point.

Ive seen every comparison/excuse to hate in the book. Some people love the safety of the gas network. Some love the sound of their engines. Some people just hate elon. I had people calling in to cancel their orders on cars after he was seen smoking pot on joe rogan.

For me, when I look at cars the model 3 and y offer AMAZING value for the price. My criteria goes like this

Comfort: Its pretty comfortable. Is it as nice as a high end european car? No. Is it more comfortable than an average toyota/honda? yes

Utility: Pretty spacious, front trunk and rear trunk cutout make for lots of storage. App integration is really nice for stuff like climate control prior to entering car. Autopilot is great for commuting and driving on the freeway. (this software comes free with the car). I've commuted nearly 70k highway miles on my commuter car (model 3) in autopilot with minimal attention to the road and can say that I would never own a commuter car without this kind of feature. Its easy to use and saves my sanity for those long traffic packed commutes.

Cost: You cant go wrong for an all around midsized SUV for <$40k. Gas is expensive now in california, and charging during off peak hours is convenient and ALOT cheaper than filling up. I average about $5-8 for a 300 mile charge. I've saved thousands of dollars so far, end of argument.

Drivability: Im not gonna lie, this car is pretty fun to drive! Having the instant torque and rapid acceleration from an EV is really nice for passing cars. Even the standard range model 3/y pack a punch for the average driver. The low center point of gravity from the battery weight also makes for improved handling.
**Now let me address this once more because people seem to have a hard time understanding how comparisons work.
Is it as fun to drive as a McLaren 750S? NO
Is it more fun to drive than a Toyota Rav4/honda crv (same pricepoint). ABSOLUTELY YES.

Now, with these benefits do come a good amount of downsides. These downsides though have different degrees of effect on different people.

The most frequent downside ive heard is "you cant go any long distance without needing to charge". This is partially true. Although there are superchargers all around the US at this point, it does take about 30-40 minutes to get a full charge and get back onto the road. You dont save quite as much because supercharging rates especially on long stretches where they know people will be road tripping is quite expensive. Not as expensive as gas, but alot more expensive than charging at home. To some people, this can be a hassle, to others not so much. I live in the bay area and I have driven my car several times to LA, San Diego, Mojave Desert, Portland Oregon, Vegas, etc. To me, the benefit of having autopilot for freeway use so I can turn on a movie during the road trip outweighs the fact that I have to stop every ~250 miles to charge. The way I see it, gives me a great opportunity to stretch and grab a snack.

TLDR: I am not as many people say a "tesla fanboy". I love all cars, have an off-roading rig for camping/adventures and manual monster for weekend fun. I am simply looking at teslas from an all in one standpoint. For the price, they offer great utility for someone whos looking for a comfortable daily driver.
From what Ive seen, everyone hating on teslas always compares them to cars that arent even in the same category/price range.

Is it going to last 700k miles like your uncles big turbo diesel that costs $20 in gas just go to the grocery store? No
Is it going to be as comfortable as your grandmas $100k Mercedes S550. No
Is it going to be as fun as your friends AWD BMW M3? No
Is it as reliable as your tiny basic toyota corolla? Probably not

Does it offer incredible value for the price? Yes

Tesla can buy down the rates from the lender that does Tesla financing. Rise of the interest rates are preventing many buyers from qualifying for a loan. Lower monthly payments will definitely help sell more cars. Better yet, advertise to the majority of Americans who haven't heard that Tesla Model 3 can be purchased for less than $30K.
THIS ----People are so surprised when I tell them that the Tesla was cheaper than my wife's Equinox.

I wonder if I should trade in my model 3 for model y. I hate all the interior noise from model 3.
Yes and don't look back! I went from a standard range plus 2020 Model 3 to a 2023 Model Y Long Range AWD. Wow, it's easily 2x better in my eyes. The improvements are impressive: 2 more seats (I got the 7 seater), faster, AWD vs RWD, hatch vs trunk (this is such a huge improvement), RIDE QUALITY is 300% better in my opinion, Auto lift gate rear trunk (not that impressive really), and Hardware 4 vs 3 (overall better but miss the front US sensors)

I honestly feel like I got twice the value over my 3 but more because I only got $6k in total rebates/credits in 2020 for 3 and I'm getting an even $20k for the Y. (Also I did the FSD transfer thing which I know only a few people had access to, another story)

Get the Y, you will love it

I get repairs in my driveway within 7 days or at the service center for more serious repairs, always within a few days. I get $100 in uber credit and it's a breeze. 1000% better than stealerships
