Good price, but Microsoft 365 offers free web based word, excel, ppt. So you only need this if you need the other apps.

Thanks for sharing. Do you know if there's a way to use the web-based version offline and easily save files locally?

The paid subscription offers desktop apps. The free web based one that person is referring to is different. That is more limited in functionality. I think most casual users will be fine with it, but if you don't use OneDrive, it can be a PIA to manage files. I would imagine most of my tech challenged family members having trouble downloading files and "opening" them because you have to go into your Word/Excel/PowerPoint webpage then open it from there. Honestly, it's not a bad option if you are okay with that method. And no, I don't think you can use them offline like you are asking.

I have used these "grey-market" keys and they have always worked. I make sure to get ones that are tied to your account so that when you need to reinstall Office, you can do that. The ones that give you a key or phone activate have a high chance of not working when you try them again on a reinstall. Keep in mind, the desktop versions of these non 365 subscription based Office are also more limited than the 365 subscription version. For example, within Excel 365 you get a ton more functions and cool features/updates (e.g. Python within Excel).

Please indulge an ignorant question regarding "I make sure to get ones that are tied to your account" which is how would you know apriori?

I'm not sure. The place I bought one from said it right in the description. It would state which "versions" were activation code only, phone activation, or tied to your Microsoft account. I don't see anything with this so I don't know how this works.

I can confirm that it activates via your Microsoft account. Purchased one just to see, and the activation instructions include logging into or setting up a Microsoft account.

"1. Click the redemption link above or visit https://setup.office.com/
2. Sign in to your Microsoft account or select 'Create a new account'
3. Copy and paste the above license key...."

Issue I have is MS screwed up upgrading to office 365 on the mac from office... I says sorry it can't import the folders and other data when converting so now I am missing all my folders unless I revert back to legacy view... Great job MS and no way to import a OLM file in the new UI
