At 50% additional cost you get the 8 series, but you are not getting 50% more features .
You get a lot more years of support out of the 8 series. And an always-on display. So per year, the 8 series will be the cheaper watch. Also a much better watch.

I got my Series 8 GPS 45mm Silver from Target last week for $254.

I believe that will be the Black Friday price at many retailers. The 41mm Series 8 was $225 both at Target and at Amazon a couple days ago.

$125 vs $390 is a big point on buying the first gen se.
I don't think it's a great deal buying old tech. The battery alone is probably degraded enough so you won't get a full operating life out of it.

Fair view.

this is good and cheaper total cost wise and you'll have rarely needed software support . Updates will be good for few more years and still it will work

There's no point buying the first generation SE. I have a Non cellular first Gen Nike SE 44mm and I'm thinking of trading it in for a new series 9.
To spend more or get more features for 200?

Thank God we're at Series 9 now, so the Slick can see the pattern of when it's Slick to buy.

Thanks to all early adopters…..you make it slick for us Slick.

I researched the Nike benefits….. much to do about almost nothing.

For sure. If you just want to use it as an exercise tracker, my Fitbit is seven years old. Never had a firmware update (that I know of). Still works like a champ.

However, my Gen 1 12.9" iPad Pro's battery crapped out. I brought it into apple, and it turned out they declared it vintage a couple months before. So apple would not swap the battery out in an otherwise perfectly fine device. Battery life has to be a consideration as well. This watch ahs not been manufactured for a while. The battery could be a couple years old out of the box.

I bought the Nike one because it was on sale on the Nike store website. This was around November 2021.

Why not pay $70 more for that 8th generation
Because at $140, I could have gotten an 8th gen, large with celluar. Then another $70 on top of that I might as well get a 9th Gen. The mini steps goes on.
My wife has an 8th Gen 41mm watch, believe me, I know the difference. And the difference is not worth the extra money. I probably upgrade to an ultra 4 someday (go big or stay humble).
