I bought the Ionchill Quick Cube Ice Machine, 26lbs/24hrs Portable Countertop Bullet Cubed Ice Maker in June from Walmart at $68 (it's currently $58 on sale) and I bought the $9 extended warranty, someone suggested. It's my first counter top ice maker. So, it's been running for 4 months, pretty much every day, all day and according to my computations, even if it died tomorrow, I think we're money ahead.
That might sound hard to believe but its just comparing the cost of buying bags of ice vs this thing. The ice is sometimes used for drinks but mostly just to cool beer and soda in coolers as we prefer ice cold. I think a 7lb bag of ice runs about $2. Not sure what the electricity cost is to run this ice maker but since the compressor is so small, I assumed it was relatively cheap. So, the $70 ice maker is about 35 bags of ice, which we would have had to buy, and that would probably run our coolers about 4 months, being very liberal. And, we still have that $9 extended warranty for 3 years in case it does die.
