The 5500u has a passmark score that is almost 60% higher than the n100 in cheaper mini pcs and a single thread score about 20% higher. It also has more pcie lanes so the nvme should be faster too.

Yeah, this will be better for most users except those looking for a Plex box.
I can't wait to see how prices are going to be in about 2 years. That's when I plan on getting rid of some ancient, but still functional PCs that aren't eligible for Windows 11 upgrade.
I'd love to get one of these Mini PC's to work as a home, light office work, remote desktop PC that would maybe be used as a HTPC. Don't game or anything but do want a little of the capability. Would this be what I'm looking for? TIA
I'm planning to use this as a TrueNAS alongside Plex. Do you mean Plex won't perform well on this?
I really don't see why this wouldn't work well as a plex box. Aside for intel's built in transcoding functionality, once you are using external usb hdds for your media storage, this seems really good,

I don't know anything about this brand (KAMRUI) but I have a Beelink version of this that I got for $260 a few weeks ago and it can do anything you would want an HTPC to do and it is more than enough for doing office/web. It can even play all the games I through at it but I don't really play current AAA titles. I play mostly retro games and indie games.

what are the use cases for such PC ?
I use a similar one for a BlueIris (security camera) server. Just throw in a big, high endurance SSD. But overall it's good for anything you want running 24/7 like VMs on a homelab, NAS, etc since it consumes so little power while still being decently fast.
Can even run it off of a usb-c power bank for ultra high reliability as long as the power bank can support 60w

I am wondering this too. I am thinking he is referring to the fact that the N100 comes with Quick Sync which is exclusive to Intel. This enables hardware video encoding and decoding (HVEC, VP9, AVC, AV1) plus more.
I do not believe AMD has an equivalent and is reliant on a good GPU. In the case of these miniPCs I believe the iGPU coming with Intel processor are better for a Plex environment.
Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I am looking for a desktop web browser PC for the in-laws. I wouldn't mind giving up my Beelink N100 mini-pc I am using for my plex and file server if this 5500u is better. But my main concern is Plex.
I haven't really noticed any issues with the N100 and can run full UHD rip transcodes so far without issues. But I am always looking to improve performance.

I brought this earlier this month and I got mixed feelings. I spent about $60 more, but I got 32gb of memory and 1tb of nvme memory. I would've brought this instead if I haven't done so. I really needed a low powered pc for work and 5500u is better compared to the 4800h. Oh well.
