Check how low your shut off is in your yard. Midwest and above is general 36" or more.

Frost line is the determination factor. Warm places like California can be as short as a foot.

Think before you buy!!

Check with your water department to see if you can touch your shutoff. If it busts in the process you may be stuck with the bill.

I actually had to do that at my old apartment with the gas. After screaming at them for six months, they came out and discovered they had screwed up the meters🤬😡😤 I said, how am I using $45 worth of gas being a single person and only having a gas furnace. I like it cold I wasn't even using the furnace so I shut off the gas valve going right into my apartment. The thing is the apartments were like 60 years old so somebody has been paying somebody else's gas bill the whole time.

I ignored the cities requests to change out my water meter. Then they threatened to shut off the water, which I still ignored....until they came out and had my valve located 😆

With this I'll just turn it back on when they shut it off.

That's what I use. Mine sits less than 6" under cover. Usually run a screwdriver through the hole on the end for some leverage when turning.
