Yeah but typically when purchasing through a utility company, you authorize them to be able to set your thermostat temp during periods of high usage
Be sure to check with your power provider before buying smart thermostats retail. Often times they offer big discounts if you buy from them, or they may also have a rebate on retail purchases.

Xcel will only sell you a Ecobee3 Lite for $80, which is not a very great deal. Maybe there's some power companies with better deals.

Interesting, I didn't realize that some force you into flex programs when buying from them. My power company in the Seattle area sold me Ecobee Premium for $50 with no flex program requirement.

True, I guess I just speak from my own experience but either way, people should read the fine print before purchasing through a utility company.

I've had multiple homes all of which have installed a Ecobee thermostat. Woot also has a deal on refurbished previous generation thermostat for $120.

I plan to buy the refurb for my rentals. I'm not in the Google ecosystem so this works for me.I appreciate the simplicity of the UI.

I'm also planning to get the newer model for my personal home use. The newer model offers air quality monitoring that I'm hoping will be useful against dust allergies

Just bought in store 3 weeks ago for $239, seems like they won't price match this so I guess I gotta buy and return.

Had an older ecobee and currently using a google nest thermostat I got for free from my power company. I greatly miss the ecobee. It's not even a close contest. Ecobee is just great all around

Here in SE Michigan, DTE is offering the ecobee (looks like the premium but only one extra temp sensor) for free with enrollment to their Smartcurrent program. You have to stay in the program for a year for the ecobee to stay as "free" and then they give a $25 annual bill credit.

I took advantage of it and it seems reasonable, they will only "throttle" the temps a few times a year when grid is being strained. Personally I'll take that compared to no throttling, grid gets overloaded and then we lose power for a few days..

Coned here in NY is only offering ecobee3 lite for $80.
It is ancient tech that was released in 2016, but they don't make anything better for the price.

Have people found these ecobees to save money on the electric bill?

I have DTE and can't find that on my account? Any help would be appreciated as to where I need to go to find it on the site. Thank you
