This is a good deal compare to my order a week ago for $5 less. I have done homework before I bought this for my kid. To answer many questions above:
1. Memory is upgradable to 64GB (2x16GB). Any DDR4 is fine. The spec you read is "up to". Slower memory but with less latency is not going to make a difference.
2. No usb-c
3. External monitor is limited to 1080P. This is dell article blame motherboard and it is by design.

However, some research showed people using Intel driver be able to go 2K/4K. So it may be dell video driver limit resolution

4. Intel i5-1235U vs AMD 5500U basically have no difference on CPU benchmark. AMD is little better on gaming due to higher GPU clock speed. Intel is probably has better battery life due to efficiency CPU cores. If price is the same, you can choose either depending on your use case. If AMD is $100 more, choose cheap Intel.
5. Intel UHD and Iris Xe are basically the same. Iris Xe MUST to use dual channel memory. So with one DIMM 8GB, you will get UHD. Two DIMMs you get Iris Xe. It is the same CPU. Just marketing term to have you buy more memory from Dell to use Iris Xe.
6. It ships with Intel AX201 (wifi6+BT5.2). Nice. No need to replace dell crappy Wifi-BT card.
7. This laptop has a 2.5 slot for SATA SSD

I plan to wipe it clean with windows 11 pro no bloatware. Install 16GB(2x*GB) to get Iris Xe and replace with good NVME 512GB(most likely dell ships DRAM-less 256GB nvme) since I have spare parts to upgrade. Install intel driver to see if it can go beyond 1080p external monitor. If you don't have spare parts, the better configuration with 16GB/512GB goes on sale around $485 based on slickdeal or you find elsewhere for parts.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, you should avoid it.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any laptop configurations available under this post with a backlit keyboard. That kills the deal for me.

There is so much bad info on these manufacturer websites. I picked up one of the hot new Envy Moves and it said the same thing Intel UHD when it actually has Iris. It also listed absolutely nowhere on the site that the screen was 75Hz, such an awesome surprise. It also listed that you can configure it up to an i9, which is untrue, it maxes out at an i5. Absolutely incredible machine for the price though, and I'm hoping to permaditch laptops for this thing

Separately, can confirm plenty of Dell.com Inspirons do have backlit keyboards, have used one for the last few years

Laptop specs are more confusing to me than toothpaste. 18 slight variations that I can't tell what really matters (other than RAM).

I need three bullet points for a 13 week trip.

1. Lightroom for a ton of photos
2. Android emulator gaming
3. HDMI out since I'll need to run all streaming through VPN

This should hit minimum specs for all that, but I haven't owned a laptop since 2010 or so. How much would this struggle? I'm planning to sell it afterwards for like half so I'm trying to get in a low as I can with adequate functionality.

just curious.. do people look at their keyboards when they type? is that why ppl want backlight keyboards? i actually usually turn the backlight OFF when it's dark because it's eye straining and actually very distracting on the keyboards that I do have backlights on (bc they came that way.. not because I wanted the backlight)

True. I bought the $350 AMD 5500u model of this Dell Inspiron 15 and this deal is better but no worth trying to change it.

btw, no backlit keypad.

VA display is not dazzling but it's ok in an interior room.

lol the 120hz monitor caught me off guard. i suppose since this will have iris graphics, it can definitely work as a casual esports laptop since you're likely gonna play on low settings anyway.

So all the computer gurus ...is this a good deal for a laptop? Looking to buy for an uncle and upgrade the RAM. I don't think he will care about the screen but looking for insight from experts. He will use it for Microsoft word, web browsing, emails, nothing too extreme
