This is a good deal compare to my order a week ago for $5 less. I have done homework before I bought this for my kid. To answer many questions above:
1. Memory is upgradable to 64GB (2x16GB). Any DDR4 is fine. The spec you read is "up to". Slower memory but with less latency is not going to make a difference.
2. No usb-c
3. External monitor is limited to 1080P. This is dell article blame motherboard and it is by design.
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdo...using-hdmi
However, some research showed people using Intel driver be able to go 2K/4K. So it may be dell video driver limit resolution
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/com...?rdt=54906
4. Intel i5-1235U vs AMD 5500U basically have no difference on CPU benchmark. AMD is little better on gaming due to higher GPU clock speed. Intel is probably has better battery life due to efficiency CPU cores. If price is the same, you can choose either depending on your use case. If AMD is $100 more, choose cheap Intel.
5. Intel UHD and Iris Xe are basically the same. Iris Xe MUST to use dual channel memory. So with one DIMM 8GB, you will get UHD. Two DIMMs you get Iris Xe. It is the same CPU. Just marketing term to have you buy more memory from Dell to use Iris Xe.
6. It ships with Intel AX201 (wifi6+BT5.2). Nice. No need to replace dell crappy Wifi-BT card.
7. This laptop has a 2.5 slot for SATA SSD

I plan to wipe it clean with windows 11 pro no bloatware. Install 16GB(2x*GB) to get Iris Xe and replace with good NVME 512GB(most likely dell ships DRAM-less 256GB nvme) since I have spare parts to upgrade. Install intel driver to see if it can go beyond 1080p external monitor. If you don't have spare parts, the better configuration with 16GB/512GB goes on sale around $485 based on slickdeal or you find elsewhere for parts.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, you should avoid it.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any laptop configurations available under this post with a backlit keyboard. That kills the deal for me.

So all the computer gurus ...is this a good deal for a laptop? Looking to buy for an uncle and upgrade the RAM. I don't think he will care about the screen but looking for insight from experts. He will use it for Microsoft word, web browsing, emails, nothing too extreme

I think this would be perfect for him then. SSD is on the smaller end and could be an issue if he plans to store anything of substance later on. Although it's upgradable too.

This is same laptop from previous deal i think : https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/867808

I purchased and returned on Day2 due to dull/bad screen. I set side by side with my 6year old laptop(500ish back then) and it's so bad all my kids said old one shows much better display quality (and i agreed).

If you are looking for youtube and browsing machine, you will be disappointed.

Did Dell charge you restocking fee?

Both upgradeable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzSc9VpPIWw
What the video shows, but not mentioned, is that this laptop also has a 2.5" HD SSD SATA carrier with cable, for even more expandability.

I read in another thread that no Inspirons from Dell's website have backlit keyboards.
That's a problem if there's no "backlight" header on the motherboard? I disassemble almost every laptop we get at work, and there's always a header for a backlit keyboard. You have to take motherboard out on pretty much all of them to replace the keyboard, but I wouldn't consider it a dealbreaker. Unless there's no header anymore. :-)

Can this one has enough juice for my kid to play Roblox?
Roblox isn't demanding and apparently will run fine on just about anything. So yes, this will be perfectly fine for it.

In the reviews there are so many feedbacks on heating issue and very poor battery life. Is there a known issue with this laptop and is DELL doing anything about it?

this laptop here and every other one Dell makes, including the top of the line $1000+ laptops have heating issues and very loud fan noise. My 9 year old Dell Inspiron 3521runs cool all the time, and can't even tell when the fan is on. I am running W-10 If I could update this one to W-11 I would. This is a known problem & and long as people keep buying them & live with the problem it will not be addressed by Dell. Why should Dell fix it.
hmmm bulb lost a previous laptop to the 'heating issue' albeit after a few years.

hey guys, after tax the laptop will be 335, but orginal price is 308, so this deal is valid. it did take a while to receive the 10% discount, but I guess you just need to be patient with it.

I have an old XPS 13 laptop. It has better specks across the board, except my laptop is old with an 8th Gen CPU. It is an 8th Gen I7 8550u (only 4 Cores).

Is it time to upgrade laptop ?
