I was under the impression that points earned in 2023 would not apply toward the companion pass in 2024 & 2025 (assuming you were trying to get it for two years) hence my plan to start the spending AFTER the December closing date. If you earned points in Nov and Dec, but hit spend in Jan… you'd still get the bonus, but I thought the earlier points wouldn't count toward the companion pass. Somehow I thought they have a way of determining when and how the point was earned.

I guess the question is, in order to maximize the benefit… nearly two full years of companion pass, do the points need to be earned in the beginning of the year… eg 2024 (following the Dec closing date). Prior threads on this topic have implied this.
curious on this as well.

You don't get any points until you meet the spending requirement. But if you meet the spend requirement at/before the end of this year, you'll get all the points and they count this year (2023) and next year (2024) as your companion pass period. That would not be good use of the pass. At least that's how I interpreted it.

Not exactly true. Points are awarded with each statement closing as you go. The welcome bonus is awarded at the closing of the statement that crosses the spending threshold. So it's possible that you would receive points in 2023 that may not 'count' towards companion but the spend will accumulate towards the threshold.

Makes sense. I guess I only looked at it where you apply for both the personal and business card and combined both bonuses to get the companion pass. Wasn't considering the points you would get from just the spend ($5000+$3000) portion.

Since the Personal Plus has 75K reward points for spending $3000 in 3 months and the Business Premier (lower tier) has 60K reward points for also spending $3000 in 3 months. Just wanted to check this combo would also get to the 135K points required for a companion pass?
Seems like it would.

If there's any concern of getting or not getting the points counted in 2023 vs 2024, then just open the 2 cards and wait on all spending to happen starting January 1, 2024 so you get the points from the purchases + the welcome bonus points to count towards 2024. You might lose out on a month of companion pass for the month of January 2024 but at least it'll be triggered and activated starting February 2024 when the January statement is completed.

I'm getting a card in a few days and would like to start spending $2000 right away/Black Friday, and then put the card into a drawer until January and spend last $1000 in January (before 90 day deadline). Would this award all my points for 2024, therefore getting me a pass in 2024 and 2025? Or would some points fall into 2023 and mess up the entire operation?

Also, I dont need the companion pass until February of 2024. Between business and personal card that $8k spend in a span of 6 weeks is steep for me, so I'd like to get that spending rolling ASAP and still qualify for 2024-2025. Any suggestions?

Just to clarify some confusion out there.
To qualify for 24-25 companion pass, minimum 135000 points need to be posted to your southwest account after 1st January. The bonus points post on the statement date following your spending requirement is met for the specific card. Therefore, you MUST complete the spending requirements only after December statement. Your statement dates maybe different for each card, so pay attention to each card and its statement date. Since just the bonuses (80k/60k+75k) are enough to qualify for the pass you don't need spending points to post in 2024. You can start spending as soon as you get the card, just don't meet the spending requirement before Dec statement.
Hope it clarifies a bit.

Free 2mos CP 1/8-3/8 - RR PROMO

Just a friendly reminder for those who registered & qualified for any one of the RR promos that would give them FREE 2mos Companion Pass FROM 1/8/2024 - 3/8/2024.

Thank you so much 🙏 I got bonuses on 1/4/22 and 2/4/22. That's the sign on spending bonus. I'm assuming I'll be eligible for bonus from 2/5/24 then? I got some referral bonus in between. Hopefully that doesn't reset the bonus date backward?

No, not bonus but eligible to apply for card after 2/4
I'm a little confused by this. Are you saying that since he received the bonus on 2/4/22, that he shouldn't apply for the card until 2/5/24??

You are eligible to apply after 1/4/24 for one card and after 2/5/24 for the other specific family of card. Pay attention to specific family personal or business !

If i get this right.
I need to apply the first card under the business name.
Then i need to apply personal card using my personal credit?
How would chase determine if both cards are related to same person? because first one is under business name
