got one for $2053 after id.me. It only takes off $115 ish.

Returning my P16v and keep this, higher refresh panel with 500 nits and RTX 4080.

Combined with AMEX offers which will take another $200 off.

Is this good for gaming compared to gaming laptops? Any thermal issues?

I believe it's 80W. The 4000 series is more efficient than last gen but at that wattage you're giving up over 1/3 of the 4080 performance range.

Wouldn't the thermals be significantly better on the P16, and I swear they had a deal on the P16 with an 800 nit screen.

So the 4080 found in the Legion is about 1/3 faster than this one?

I got this for my college kid, so 4lbs will be an ideal weight for him.

Also keep in mind P1 4lbs is thinner and lighter than P16v (close to 5 lbs).

P16 has too much weight, 6.5 lbs, not portable at all.

I had the 12700H / A2000 version of this laptop and it would thermal throttle playing Overwatch 1. This chassis didn't handle high loads well - it's only 3.97 lbs. And the battery life was shit at about 3-4 hours max. Otherwise it was a great machine. Needs and Intel 1370P and lower power GPU for the thermal constraints - unless they have significantly changed the cooling solution.

I was not able to get a discount with id.me, the customer service rep looked at my cart and said it was not available with the WSDEAL13 code. Hm.

Yes, and likely will be able to sustain performance without throttling. I've seen some review videos that say that this does throttle but haven't found too much info about how bad it is exactly

Man that's a bummer but I suppose it's unavoidable. The dimensions on this laptop is more in line with "thin and light" gaming laptops like the Zephyrus line from Asus.
