Locked knobs for adults and bathroom but no locks for young children. I quess its personal preference.

In for 4 sets to replace all the old ones in my house, been meaning to replace them since the bedroom ones don't have locks. Decided to get locked ones for the closets too, might as well have the option to lock if they are the same price.

Cannot see the back side of the knob, but most passage knobs have some latching mechanism so the back side is not flat. In that case, would still have to drill a hole on the door.

I have an older home with a recessed round style door strike plate/latch cups. Can anyone confirm whether these particular door knob latch assemblies allow the rectangular plate to be pried off the latch cylinder and discarded when used as a replacement for older doors. Can't really tell from the pics. TIA
