Decent processor and screen. 4gb of RAM is the minimum for Chromebooks now though.

That processor (N100) is very popular in low power miniPCs. If it can run windows and office, I'm sure it's an excellent chromebook.

Nice for emulation, but the screen color accuracy is abysmal (50% NTSC from the specs page). That alone kills it imo.

Yeah I've tested it on another machine with win11, Ubuntu desktop and now proxmox with a pfsense VM and it's handled all of it like a champ. The higher memory bandwidth of DDR5 makes up for the single channel 4GB somewhat.

Got this for my elementary aged child. The 16:10 screen @ 300 nit brightness has been impossible to find for me under $500, and the 2:1 is great for younger kids to transition from tablets to a real computer.

Is this enough PC for a dedicated golf simulator like SkyTrack?

Only the RAM is bad, and it would still usable for basic tasks for years.

I would buy a low end Windows laptop at this price.
Since ram and ssd are getting cheaper, you can get a low end Windows laptop with similar CPU with upgrade options for around $200. Then you can add 16G ($30) or 32G ($54) and a 1T m2 ssd ($40 to $60)
I bought a AMD A9 laptop for $200 in 2019. It is very slow in Windows 10but it works fine in Ubuntu. I added 16G ram and a 512G ssd. I spent this morning to play with it, it is still ok in Ubuntu.

Does anyone know if the end of support date of 2029 is accurate? I thought Chromebooks made this year recently got 10 years of support? Never owned a Chromebook, thanks

Pretty irritating experience if you plan to have play store/android support turned on. 4gb would of cost them 5$? and really changed the experience factor. But maybe that is the point... to get you to buy something w a i3 and 8gb at the next price point.

if this had 8gb it wouldnt be 179. you always give up something, if you dont like it start your own computer company and offer 8gb laptops for 179 you wont. if this has 8gb it would be a tn panel. mcdonalds workers make $20 an hour now, it's expensive to make things. where did you get $5 anyway? doesnt iphone with 6 gb cost 1000?

this has a 300 nit wuxga screen and good build quality. that puts it way ahead of most 4gb crapbombers. remember a dollar is worth nothing in 2023. $5 is 2 cents.
