Are you suggesting that backing up your legally owned discs is unethical? Because that's a horseload if there ever was one.

I've had this exact drive for a few years now and have ripped multiple Blu-Rays with MakeMkv and converted/compressed with Handbrake. As long as this is the same model as I have (looks exactly the same but could have different guts) it IS flashable to play/rip 4k/3D discs as well*. Not as fast as a 5.25" drive would be but it is very light and portable and doesn't need external power or a SATA connection. It's pretty quiet too.

I've only ran into a few movies that just wouldn't rip, and I don't think it was the movies themselves just something with the discs because one of them was Jurassic Park 2, whereas all the other movies in the series ripped perfectly fine.

*Just be sure to follow the flashing instructions carefully if you go that route so you don't accidentally brick your drive.

P.S. I got a "Lacdo" brand hardshell case on Amazon to keep it safe when I'm not using it.

I mean, he posted the system output where line after line begins with "scsi error." At this point, you just sound like a know-it-all who's too immature to admit they were wrong. He didn't say it was an error with a scsi port. You're the one you interpreted it that way. It is, in fact, a scsi error, even if it doesn't mean exactly the same thing you think it should. There's one person threadcrapping here, and it's 100% you.

What do you mean by 'nothing happens' when you try to flash BP60NB10 firmware? It's a two-step process and the step you mentioned is the 2nd step (last step). You can verify your firmware in MakeMKV as well on the right side.
Sorry, that was unclear. 'Nothing happens' means my firmware stays at DE_LG_WP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK. Yes, it goes through the process as if it's upgrading to DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK (progress bar advances to 100%, taking a normal amount of time) but at the end of the operation it still identifies as a BP50NB40 drive.

My problem is, I read the instructions in post 119. I thought since that post came in late, it would be the one with the best info, custom-tailored to the drives we just bought. I was wrong.

Instead, here are some instructions that actually work for the drive I just bought. (we all just bought?) I assume lots if not all of us got this exact same one, when buying from this deal thread in the last few days.
On the sticker on the bottom of the unit, mine says:
MODEL: BP50NB40
SVC CODE: NB52
Makes sure yours is the same if you follow these instructions, as I can only vouch for mine working.
I used these instructions:
Code:
For the moment, to flash the BP50NB40 SVC:NB52, using the latest SDFtool Flasher, follow the steps below:

1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.

Now for the crossflash:

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up, select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal drop box.
4. Click START
That worked for me.

I needed all this software first:
1. the updated flasher tool: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ra...9.zip/file
2. latest makemkv software: (find where it says "Give it a try. Download your copy now!") https://www.makemkv.com/
I didn't use this software, but I needed to install it first for the flasher tool to work.
3. The "all you need" firmware pack: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1...0FCdM/view (contains the firmware you need, and a few you don't)

I'm sorry for the confusion earlier about the firmware--I was writing it out from memory since I didn't have the drive connected to my laptop. Check the label on the bottom of the drive. On the left side it'll say this:
Slim Portable Blu-ray / DVD Writer
MODEL: BP50NB40
SVC CODE: NB52 <-- this is what "Install boot loader?" is for if you hover over that checkbox. If your SVC code isn't NB52, apparently you don't need to check that box.

SDFtool Flasher: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/v...hp?t=22896

Scroll down and download the program itself along with the "All You Need Firmware Pack."

Now that you have those, ensure you do not have a disc in the drive because, if you have a disc in the drive, you'll see a cryptic error when attempting to write the firmware.

Open SDFtool Flasher, select your drive, click Write, select the DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK. You may need to check the Encrypted box, and you may need to check Include boot loader?. Click Start.

After that, reopen SDFtool Flasher if it closed. Click Recover. The first popup ("Select the drive's currently installed (wrong) firmware file...") is asking you to select the firmware you just used (DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK), so select that and click Open. Click the "Please select a firmware to write" dropdown and then it'll open another popup ("Select a firmware file to write...")--choose DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK.bin, and then click Start. Your drive should now show it's using the BP60NB10 firmware.

Holy smokes, "mediafire", that's a blast from the past. I haven't seen anything linked from there in a lonnngggg time and didn't even realize they still existed.
