At least that mobo shows a First BIOS release date of 2022/09/13. Should still get some updates as new issues come up.

However, 14th gen(literally just 13th gen with new "4" ink on the CPU) is the last CPU generation for this socket, should take that into account in any savings...

Look at the right edge of the board... it's missing a full set of standoff holes because ASUS cheaped out on the PCB and made it undersize to save a few pennies. I would avoid such a heavily cost reduced mobo because ASUS probably cut corners elsewhere.

I am struggling with choosing this or i7-12700KF with ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi D4? As I read the benchmarks it appears these processors are similar in performance. One thing to note, the ASUS TUF gaming MB has DDR4 and this combo is DDR5. Thoughts?

Are you talking about MC combos ? If so, with 50 more you get 16gb more ram and it's ddr5 and faster cpu? No brainer 12900k with ddr5. DDR 5 is much faster than ddr 4 too

That's a good point. On the bright side, it would fit better in my smaller case, but you'd need to be careful not to flex the board when installing RAM. I got an MC bundle with a Z690 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4 earlier this year. Older memory tech, but it's a full-featured board, solid and heavy.

Side note: Any board that has lots of pretty images printed on it as this one does is trying to distract you from its lack of features. (It's probably not a bad board; that's just an observation.)

Comparing this combo with the MB and CPU that I just got but haven't opened. Paid $320 for the i7 +TUF gaming MB. I think the TUF gaming is a better MB? It has wifi 6 for one.

I can pay $320 for i7 CPU +TUF gaming MB or pay $399 for i9 CPU + not as good MB + 32 GB of RAM

Def. get the i9 one. MB isn't that important unless there's a specific feature that you need. As long as the MB works and can run your system stably then you are fine. There's still msi 690 MB combo available, I've been using 2 of them on my 12900k and 13700k build, it's decent. That Asus z790 should be fine as well at least its 7 series
