Wow, actually an insane deal. Wish the code applied to the Walnut version — would buy immediately.
Who cares how they look, it's the sound I care about.. just purchased!!
This may sound sacrilegious but can you just buy a black 3m or vinyl veneer?

Ugly(to me) in terms of the finish. I like the walnut but for this price I am okay with the fan boy/speed racer style.
Thanks staff OP.

I held back the same sentiment. LOVE their heritage vintage look, but really don't get the McLaren branding on a speaker at all

Resisting since my Fives are excellent already 😬

Yeah, had it in the cart and was about to click purchase, but good god these are ugly. Look like little go carts.

Would buy in a second if they were in the walnut finish with tweed fronts

Yes. $10 vinyl and 2 hours of careful application. To be on the safe side, you can remove the drivers and do it. Mine holding well even after 2 years on my KEFs.

I haven't, but if I were trying I would probably lay a whole sheet of vinyl down, sticky side up, then angle the speaker down onto it, then smooth it out and trim it very carefully.

Having said that, these are half the cost of even the normal The Nines without the ugly McLaren design... so if someone passing on it because it's ugly? Just boggles my mind.

Yes, you can do the vinyl right over them like some are suggesting, I think if I really like them I will use a wood veneer and take the old finsih off everything but the front before applying. I have done this to other speakers in order to get a fine finish.
If you are a woodworker or very DIY inclined it is easy and you can do any finish you can dream up. Obviously it adds to the cost substantially if you do some exotic wood veneer but even just an oak, walnut or maple with a beautiful finish can be great.
Alternatively some folks have paint booths (for automotive or similar) and they can do a finish with automotive paints which can look really cool.
This is a niche sitiation but a good fit for some folks. A rattle can can do well also if you choose a quality paint and have experince getting a great even coat without many flaws.
Truck bed liner/paint can alos work well if you like that look. (I do not)
