Humidifier aficionado here: this is my current favorite. Having had Vornado and Dyson units, this does a great job of humidifying our bedroom, very easy to clean and has a relatively big water reservoir. Also, for me at least, it's silent and doesn't make dripping noises which all of the aforementioned do. Great price!

Typically the target is 50% for the overall level of humidity in your house. This ensures things like furniture, wood flooring, etc. remain stable and do not warp or cup. Most importantly bad things like mold don't grow above about 60% humidity. As it relates to personal health, winter time is typically the driest time of the year in many parts of the country and humidity below 50% can start to cause some individuals to experience dry nasal passages, coughing or even nose bleeds. Additionally, if you have an onset of bronchitus the additional humidity above 50% can help alleviate symptoms and create a productive cough to get phlegm out of the lungs. This is where either a room or whole house humidifier such as posted can help. All of the is very YMMV and if you are healthy and not having any issues you may not even need humidity. Hope this helps...

I just contacted LEVOIT and they stated that this model is the same, or comparable, to these two models:

And

I have determined the best thing is leaving the shower on full blast with hot water all night and day. Not only does the home stay humid but it is also convenient that you do not feel cold before jumping in each day.
I can't imagine whoever is paying for your utility bills will have a heart attack soon enough.

Anyone has issues with cool/warm most units emitting a bunch of white particles everywhere? It caused my hvac filters to clog up pretty quickly. One year filters last like 1 month.
Those are the minerals in tap water. Those minerals are left behind in evaporative humidifiers but ultrasonic ones just blast them into the air which is why you're supposed to use distilled water in them. All ultrasonic humidifiers will leave behind those particles and in addition to clogging up filters, they're also very bad for electronics. The benefit to them though is that they don't get moldy as quick and don't require as much cleaning so my recommendation is to stick with your ultrasonic 'mist' humidifier but either buy distilled water in bulk or try a Zero water pitcher which should accomplish the same goal.

Just ordered one. I live in a hard water area and have both reverse osmosis and water softener installed. Do I need to use RO water to avoid white dust ? Or just soft water may work ? Thanks.
Do you have any white buildup on your shower fixtures? If you do, you will probably want to use the RO. If you don't, you should be ok.

I don't have any white buildup in my shower and sinks etc. So I should be OK without the RO. Thanks.

Thanks OP. I currently have the Vornado Evap40 [amazon.com] which is great (probably the best I've used) and has large tanks which we use for our master bedroom. Going to pick up this Levoit for one of the kids rooms.

I had this model (or similar one) that I bought last year after seeing it was #1 with the Wirecutter. I wasn't a fan. I found it had too many parts with too many nooks and crannies which made cleaning it a pain. It also leaves a residue on everything in the room you have it running in.

I'd like to know that too. Is the sponge filter reusable?

i have a similar one to this that's top fill and smaller. after using both evaporative and this - i can say neither are great so you have to settle.

mine does get a lot of pink slime , even though i have two filters in the tank, two sponge filters in the base. i replace them every month.

getting distilled waters for all the humidifiers in my house would have me go through 10-15 gallon jugs a week , which creates a lot of waste and sometimes i the winter our stores run out of distilled water as i need it for netti rinses.

I wish there was a better solution. Any tech inventors who want to create a product breakthroughs- room humidifiers is where they should
look!

FYI there's a significant risk of ultrasonic humidifiers causing air pollution. These could be hazardous to your health:

I threw mine out and got evaporative humidifiers, which do not have the same risk.

Any recommendations for a humidifier that's super easy to clean. I need something for a toddler's room.

Most humidifiers got little nooks and corners that's difficult to reach and clean.
