Humidifier aficionado here: this is my current favorite. Having had Vornado and Dyson units, this does a great job of humidifying our bedroom, very easy to clean and has a relatively big water reservoir. Also, for me at least, it's silent and doesn't make dripping noises which all of the aforementioned do. Great price!

Typically the target is 50% for the overall level of humidity in your house. This ensures things like furniture, wood flooring, etc. remain stable and do not warp or cup. Most importantly bad things like mold don't grow above about 60% humidity. As it relates to personal health, winter time is typically the driest time of the year in many parts of the country and humidity below 50% can start to cause some individuals to experience dry nasal passages, coughing or even nose bleeds. Additionally, if you have an onset of bronchitus the additional humidity above 50% can help alleviate symptoms and create a productive cough to get phlegm out of the lungs. This is where either a room or whole house humidifier such as posted can help. All of the is very YMMV and if you are healthy and not having any issues you may not even need humidity. Hope this helps...

I just contacted LEVOIT and they stated that this model is the same, or comparable, to these two models:

FYI there's a significant risk of ultrasonic humidifiers causing air pollution. These could be hazardous to your health:
https://dynomight.net/humidifiers/

I threw mine out and got evaporative humidifiers, which do not have the same risk.
That is an interesting read and de-ionizer filters are not that uncommon in the aquarium hobby; however, they are pretty expensive to run. Granted, an argument can be made in using them for health purposes even though the tend to use some unusual media.

Would the evaporation humidifiers not still pose a threat due to mold in the filter/wick?

how does this Levoit compare to this Vicks humidifier from Target? https://www.target.com/p/vicks-wa...A-10403765

Can I still use vicks vapor pads or the vaposteam liquid with the Levoit?

Any issues with leaking? I have the Levoit Classic model that is top-fill and it leaks.

Just a heads up, with ultrasonic dehumidifiers, it's pertinent to use distilled water. Using water from the faucet will clog up the air filter in your furnace after a while as the impurities in the water such as calcium are dispersed into the air along with the mist.

I was in the Raleigh location and no it wasn't available. I just ordered online, hopefully it's easy to clean and has good mist output!

I actually misspoke, I just got the old-school steam humidifier, so I don't have to worry about water that's been boiled. But I think as long as you occasionally clean the evaporative ones, the mold wouldn't be a big deal.

I would think the evaporative humidifier poses a greater risk of mold/bacteria build up in the filter and wick bc water collect there, but if youre replacing it frequently anyway then it's not a major problem.

The article argues more about the two mode, where the evaporative humidifier is basically just a fan passing dry air thru a wet filter via a fan, whereas the ultrasonic one actually break up the water into smaller water particles, along with whatever metals and sediments dissolved into the water.

I'm trying to find a humidifier that I can get at least 24 hours of not having to refill it 😝. How often are you filling this one? Smilie
I set my at the max 80% humidity output in a 350sqft room at 68-70 degrees and usually get about 4-6 nights worth out of one fill. Pro tip, I also use ZeroWater filters to cut-down on the white mineral dust that would come with this much humidification. I go through about 3-4 filters from October - April, but it's worth it to me to not have the room coated in white dust. https://a.co/d/7VOrqab

How do you think this would work with RO water that is re-mineralized? Ours puts two minerals back into the RO water (which is better for drinking).

I love this humidifier. It's been thoughtfully designed to make cleaning easy. All parts can be disassembled in a way they are reachable by cleaning tools..I've had many in the past where you can't get to specific areas, but not this one. The smart function also allows me to have it start and turn off at preset times for the kids' bedrooms, and can be controlled by Alexa.

Anyone has issues with cool/warm most units emitting a bunch of white particles everywhere? It caused my hvac filters to clog up pretty quickly. One year filters last like 1 month.
Stop using straight tap water. All the junk in your water ends up as white dust. As already stated, use some form of purified tap water, osmosis or distilled. I have a countertop distiller, mostly for drinking water and the wife's steam oven. BTW, I don't recommend drinking tap water — even rural well water. Bottom line, distillation doesn't remove contaminants from water (osmosis), it removes water from the contaminants. This is what research labs and medical centers use for the purest H2O.

I have Levoit's old version of this humidifier (not top fill), and it's one awesome little unit. I use it as a whole house humidifier in the main area of a 2000s/f home. It maintains 40% humidity thanks to the steam function, when outside temps are below 0*F. Running on the highest setting consumes 3 gallons of water for 18 hours.

I know good quality distillers are ~$350-450, but my first one lasted 19 years at an average of 2 gallons a day (winter can require up to 5 gallons). To me it's an investment in my family's health. All you need to see is the leftover goo after a one gallon distillation cycle to never want to drink unpurified tap water. If interested, check out Waterwise… made in the USA and wonderful tech support.

In my experience with a Vicks v3900 humidifier that has a tank as well, you don't need to do much for the tank but rinse it out. The water that I put in it is municipal supplied anyway, it has chlorine residual in it.

The bottom of the humidifier is what gets mold or stained, I need to clean that part at least weekly.
If you use purified water, only need to clean the bottom out once a month. And if not using the steam (heat) function, you can go 2 months before seeing any noticeable bacteria in the Levoit.
