You almost certainly can remove the drive from this. The point is that the drive's SMR tech means it would be very slow compared to started hard drives, much less SSD.
The reason you want to shuck drives is more to allow you to run them as full speed with an internal connector like SATA. These drives aren't going to have a serious speed boost compared to the Enterprise-level drives in most of the WD MyBooks that are the focus of the shucking discussions.
As a result -- get these as, for example, backup drives. Keep them portable, and don't expect fast speeds from them.

Wait, is chuckable just the ability to take it out and use it in a desktop? Or is it taking it out without damaging the enclosure so it's not detectable in case of warranty issues?
