Not too bad. This is a 6500 sized reel. Tempted to get for a second crab snaring setup hahaha... I have an 11' crab snare special rod that I'd pair this with. would probably sell the rod or something....

6500 is a hefty sized reel. Probably a little larger than people realize.
Can't see anyone using this in freshwater unless going for huge Cats or maybe Sturgeon?

If you're going for NE Stripers & Bluefish from the beach, it might be overkill, unless put on a 10 or 11 foot surf rod.

Might be great for some other SW species, especially from a boat (that 6'6" rod)

On the west coast people use these on 10-12' rods either for crab snaring or bait and waiting for stripers and perch (although it is a bit large), both off the surf primarily but often piers too (well, specifically Pacifica pier). I've also seen an increase of these being used on sport boats for flylining smaller grade tuna and other species off kelp paddies. Although I can't imagine doing this on a sport boat and inevitably tangling others up.

Is this one good for salt water fishing. Just getting into. Went off shore in our boat in Florida and use cheap Walmart Shakespeare catfish rod and reel and caught a bunch of grunts. Kids loved it. I know those won't last if I use them in salt water. So I need a reel for me and a couple for the kids. I could go to a store but don't want to get taken and buy more than I need. I know local they can help guide stuff and if something is wrong they can fix it but also a deal is a deal. If they sold this same thing at local store and said it was good I would buy it but likely won't be the case. Thanks

These would work pretty well for your situation, probably the best for the price if you need it immediately, however if you wait and watch I am sure many more (better) deals will be coming over the next month or two.

This is a great set up for saltwater. Good braid goes a long way with these reels

I bought this deal last time and I bought it again today. It's a beast for bonita runs or blackfin tuna runs on a crowded elbow to elbow pier. It has non ceramic dura-guides to survive rod to rod bangups, and it has enough drag to (hopefully) quickly get the fish in before the porpoises eat them and before someone tangles up their line with yours. And it's stiff enough get cast 3 oz spoons way out there. It's great for hauling in the meat.

6'6" makes it an off shore or crab snagging combo. Too heavy for anything else other than surf but not long enough for surf

Stupid question from a newbie but I'm trying to understand why you wouldn't take this on freshwater. I understand that it is overkill....

but to my ignorant noob brain... I interpret that as a jack of all trades rig.... It can do freshwater... it can do salt.... It can catch bluegill... it can catch "Pompano to med sharks"...

What am I missing?
