This thing has actual sensors to detect the type of coin inserted? Nice.

Amazon just waits and matched. They never take the initiative to lower prices anymore.

Or, put $10 in a mason jar without the fancy lid for a head-start on saving. When I was a kid, waiting till the jar was full to count it up was kinda part of the fun

it only senses the size. not the chemistry or weight of the real coin. so i guess you can insert fake or canadian coins in there

This thing is crap, I used to have one and the lid counted the wrong coin regularly. Literally threw out the lid and just used the plastic tub. Stay away!!

Yeah...no.
The slit you insert the coin has a spring loaded piece of plastic partially blocking it. When you insert a coin it forces the plastic to the side. This gives a little resistance and depending on how far you push to the side the device recognizes the coin type based on it's width.
It is often innacurate, confusing dimes for pennies. Other coin mistakes are made but not as frequently.
It is a gimmick for young kids and doesn't really work well enough for it's advertised purpose.

It does have two buttons on top to adjust the amount (like setting a clock) so if you are mentally keeping track as you add you can fix it's errors.

For $10...maybe? Can be a math and counting experience if your kid is in the right range.

This is the reason why standardized tests have a money counting section on them.
