Normally I would recommend the hack, but this will EAT through batteries. I'm not sure table saws are the right piece of equipment for batteries, especially with dust extraction needs. But, it's a nice saw none the less.
How exactly does it "eat" through batteries? It's just your regular circular saw flipped upside down with a slightly bigger blade. I don't get the part about the dust extraction either. Hardly any stuff flying in your face compared to the regular circular saw's fountain of saw dust.

You can also hook up a battery-operated shop vac to it, which is what I do.

I love my ryobi table saw for $199 and its only 18v. I'm a home DIYer. I've never ran out of even one battery. It's for small cuts obviously. For large and long cuts I still have my foldable but this has been great when I have to make some small but straight cuts on the go. So is this $399 after the hack or before? Is it $250 after battery return if so I might get it and figure out how to ship my ryobi to another house.

This would be my first DeWalt 20v tool/battery. Any recommendations on an economy charger to go with the battery?

Other than the motor and power source is the table, fence, etc, functionally the same as the plug-in 81/4 dewalt table saw?

Would it be reasonable to return the battery for store credit and then just buy the 2pack 9ah. If they give you credit for current price 239 the 2 pack is 349. Dono if that's reasonable or if they would even do that, but personally I can never have too many batteries.

I prefer the corded version. The flex volt eats batteries about one per hour with a 3-man trim crew. It also stalls out and cuts slower overall.

Another $20 off on the corded at Northern: 283762.

This is a smocking hot deal on a great portable saw. If you're in dewalt ecosystem and need a small, light, portable saw for quick, easy jobs, then you can't beat this deal. Don't hack it and return the battery either, keep it. You want to have two 9ah batteries, one in saw and one on rapid charger that way you always have one freshly charged ready to go. You can pick additional 9ah up on eBay for as low as $120.

How does this compare to Milawaukee table saw that costs $600 and comes with 12ah battery and rapid charger? Dewalt is weaker and runs I believe 500rpm slower, which I like because the saw is quieter than Milwaukee. Other than that, both saws are nearly identical, one is more powerful but noisy, other runs quieter but just a tiny bit weaker.

This is a great saw, but if you're in Milwaukee ecosystem, I wouldn't invest into this. Rapid charger is another $100, so you're looking at saving $100 over Milwaukee combo, and you still have a battery that's 3ah smaller.

Main appeal of these saws is they're highly portable and ridiculously light compared to everything else. They are very quick to set up since you don't need to look for power source at job site and run extension cords. If you're someone who pulls up to a job site, sets up, does his thing quickly, then packs up and goes to another job site, then these are invaluable. If on the other hand you're looking for a saw for your garage, or you're in a trade like finish carpentry where you set up once and you can spend a week before you need to pack up, then this is not a saw for you. You're better off with a nice corded saw.

If anyone is in the market and can spend the extra $$ I'd recommend the Skil worm drive table saw 8.25" $420. Or the 10" with stand $650 currently on Amazon. I do like the flexvolt one though... for freeing up a circuit.

This is a very good deal for these days. I've had this for four years and got one at Murdochs sort of a stacked deal as I remember at 399 with two 9AH batts AND the fast charger. It was an in store only YMMV and I got the last one hidden on a top shelf. It really does need two batteries if you are going to do any real cutting like deckwork or framing, but I also got a killer deal on some other FlexVolt tools including the saw (never used), blower, weedwhacker (replaced a gas one) and grinder (fantastic tool) with batteries and so have like three 9AH and about four 6AH versions as I bought a pair of 6's on another deal from here. I haven't seen anything close since. This is a fantastic saw. I didn't even bother to put it on a rolling cart as it is easy to carry around works great on a good fold up work table or the ground in a pinch. I got a Harbor Freight adjustable stand for the outfeed and it all works perfect and cuts out a lot of time vs my older corded one. You can also take it to where you are working in the yard... I swear by this saw instead of at it.

Ditto on everything you said. I did my research here a few years ago. You can get a rapid charger on Ebay for 57 bucks and that is the way to go. A person NEEDS at least one of the fast chargers as most of the rest suck for air and take forever to charge.

It's a great deal if you are already in the DeWalt/FlexVolt ecosystem like you said, but if you are in the Milwaukee Ecosystem, go thataway...It also gets extremely good reviews.

Just because there might be a chance I want to use AC if an outlet is nearby and I could save my battery power. Could I use something similar to this? DEWALT DCB500L FlexVolt Mitre Saw Adaptor Cable 110V DEWDCB500L
I would be hesitant about purchasing that. According to Dewalt literature, that power adapter is only valid on the DHS780 mitre saw.

I am not saying it wouldn't work, but I do find it odd that the only listings I can immediately find are from the UK. For around $180 USD I would be researching out the wazoo.... but maybe you have more disposable income than me, so, by all means, but I am just as curious as you are and if it worked for the saw in this post, I wonder if it would work (and NOT damage) other dewalt tools....
