It's the principle. Not encouraging them to sell overpriced drives
This is about the price I'd drop for a 2TB version
I'm sorta 50/50 on it. I bought the system knowing its storage limitations, but I don't fully accept the pricing on the storage expansion. They're really ripping people off with those prices. The prices aren't low enough for me to buy, but I'm sure they are for others. I do always appreciate these posts because everyone has a different price point where they're willing to buy the proprietary storage. In the interim, I just use a regular portable HDD to move my games back and forth. I don't need all my games all the time.

Still too high of a price IMO, regardless of competition or previous price.

Exactly. I'm sure most can afford it at $150 but that doesn't make it ok. Only paid $200 for the entire system.. Holding til BF in hopes another $90-100 deal swings around.

Tho between Starfield and CoD my poor lil Series S drive is hurting Frown

Always the beefing about the price of these when there are deals on them. It's well established that these are the option to expand useful storage on these consoles, and that yes, said option is comparatively expensive to memory not in their proprietary format. We all know this, so can we dispense with the kvetching about it?

I bought the console knowing this and accept it, and appreciate deals on these cards.

I'm thinking of getting an external SSD (t7) when they go low again and just swap games back and forth if the proprietary doesn't drop to 90 for 1tb, 175 for 2tb. since not only are these drives expensive, but they can't really be repurposed outside of the Xbox, where an external drive could be

Going to bite with my 30% Discover promo discount. $90 is good enough. Can anyone confirm if I can swap between Xbox Series X and S?

Gotta say this is one factor where Sony did out-consumer their Microsoft console counterpart. Almost makes up for their embarrassing PS Plus tiers and pricing. Almost.

Just deleted Forza, after playing it for 20 minutes (yawn), so I'm good. Will bite at $90.

Since both use the "Xbox Velocity Architecture" they should be close, or identical.. I did i quick google search and found some reddit post / reviews that seem to back this up, but I could not find a specific benchmark comparison.

But I am very brand loyal to WD, I have had other Seagate products that died an early death.

100% agree with your loyalties with WD. I'm not sure how Seagate won the rights to be the only player in town for this proprietary expansion drive. The fact that it was Seagate, coupled with the $200/TB price tag meant no fast expansion drive for me.

Now that WD has a solution, I'm actually looking.
