Something about the code being spooky and this being a refurbished hard drive makes me think twice.

Here's a discussion of this deal pre-discount-code. To prevent a repeat.

Any speculation on prices around Black Friday? I am unfamiliar with how much these typically go down during the holidays. Maybe $10 discount? Deciding whether or not it's worth waiting. My NAS is starting to get low on storage.

It all depends on what is available and in stock on the side of SPD. I would expect 14TB drives around $110 again and maybe some 16TB drives around $150. Look for expired deals from ServerPartDeals to see the prices.

These are used enterprise class drives. Prices usually drop as the inventory of less used drives is depleted and you see models with more hours on them. Figure a drive spinning for 3 years is worth a little more than a drive spinning for 4 or 5 years. Season doesn't really matter much.

You might possibly find a good deal on an external drive to shuck during BF. It will be brand new. It may or may not be a high quality drive.

If you need it and you are waiting to possibly save $4, that's probably foolish. If you need it in the next 6-12 mos so you have plenty of time on your side or you'd feel better with anything brand new vs. refurb, waiting makes more sense.

Any recommendations about this for use in an NVR. Specs seem great for the money, it's just domestic cameras so I'm not as bothered about losing the data than if it where the family photo vault.

Anyone use these Dell Seagate Exos drives in a Synology NAS? I know these are not on official compatibility list.

Any ideas why the first-hand user would sell these HDDs if they are working like a charm?

Businesses cycle drives (and PCs/servers/etc) out on a predetermined timeline or during large scheduled system refreshes, they don't (normally) just wait for things to fail like an individual might.
