I'm too tired to think this out, so what is the minimal buy-and-get-out with a phone on this?

Can you confirm that the pay off price will be $36? Usually on device payment plans you get a monthly credit and have to pay off the remaining retail balance to cancel. I don't see a monthly credit so I'm guessing this might be different but wanted to double check first.

Why would you pay for 60 days service and activation... instead of 3 days and no activation?

Unlocking happens either way in 60 days.

You can go in-store to pay it off as recommended in this thread. I received my shipment on Wednesday afternoon.

Activated it that night and spent pretty much the next day doing the 20 updates/patches. Went into a Verizon corporate store first thing Friday morning and paid it off in cash (only option for this phone). They will show you that it is paid off on their screen and give you a receipt.

Note: I also paid off the remaining amount on my Google Pixel 6 Pro from a year a half ago so I'd be ready for any good trade-ins this holiday for a Pixel 8 Pro (credit card payments were allowed for that).

Later that afternoon i signed onto my account and contacted Verizon Customer Chat and cancelled the new line on my account. Customer service said there shouldn't be an activation fee but put a note for it to be credited if it does appear. Pro-rated for 2 days of service.

Easy Peasy. Now to wait 60 days for it to unlock.

Does anyone know if Tracfone SIM (Verizon) work in this phone while it is locked??

Thanks.....only 5 More to Go!!!

Update 8:00AM 11/172023 : and the 20th update has FINALLY begun. Seriously ANNOYING process.

Update 8:30am 11/17/2023: AND THE 20th and final UPDATE Process is completed.

RIDICULOUS. Almost a day later.

They should really make the whole process auto-update itself an option. instead you have to check back on the phones and hit downoad....and then it restarts...and you hit install....then the phone reboots (sometimes multiple times for 1 patch). repeat 20+x
Yup, had to do the same

Ordered mine on 18th, received on 21st. It was a new line for a brand new account. After reading others experience, was expecting my 3 day window to cancel the line would start yesterday. But after I logged into my Verizon found a bill already prepared with billing start date as Nov 18th, which meant I had to cancel immediately. First tried chat to pay the phone off, was told it can be done only after 11 more days. Then called the 1800 number , requested cancel , agent told me it was cancelled, but as I refreshed the my verizon page while on the call it showed a message that there is a request to disconnect this line at the end of the billing cycle. When I said this to the agent he was surprised since he had put in the cancellation date as yesterdays date , he put me on hold and later asked me the check one more time. The device disappeared my my account which means the cancel went through. Also he refunded my activation fee. Will wait for the final bill to see everything works out correctly.

Can I order multiple phones as a new verizon customer and cancel before/within 3 days of activation to avoid any additional fee?

You didn't need to play with in store device payment aspects? That was a big snafu in itself. 2nd store I hit was corporate and they still couldn't do it, but was mall corporate?
Yeah, was pissed to have it activated just after having it shipped. Must be new line vs upgrade?

Then shipping is so freaking slow nowadays-only these take a week for fedex home and usps always gets stuck another day sitting on the other side of town.

DID NOT HAVE TO PAYOFF DEVICE TO CANCEL/DISCONNECT THE LINE.

i got the phone today and i had chat with agent to cancel the line, the agent in the chat, told me , they will go a head and cancel the line and the $36(device cost) will be added to final bill which i can pay later.

my line got disconnected with in few hours of receiving of phone, and they said i will receive a final bill soon. ..did not have to pay off the device to get it disconnected. device payment will be applied in final bill. which will be available on 18th Dec

received email confirmation of disconnection and mobile network shows x mark and does not make calls. so it is disconnected.
----UPDATE:-----
i got a bill of $94, called them, and asked for a credit adjustment, so that i am left with only the device payment cost, the rep pn call did that promptly with in 4 minutes of the call. and now i am left with payment of just the device cost only.

Similar situation here. I tried a second time and came through fine. Just activated it this afternoon already.
Did you change any details in the form second time around?

My shipment has been delayed but Verizon has already sent me a bill. I thought I had 3 days to cancel activation but I'm a week in since ordering.

I finally got the phone, "activated" 2 days ago by making a call on the phone. I just got off the line with Verizon cs they explained the line would be disconnected and I would get a prorated refund, then the line went dead. It seems they immediately cut off service. Hopefully the final bill doesn't include the activation fee.

The CS rep did try to tell me I had to keep the service for 1 month at first. I pushed back and then she told me she had to speak to supervisor for alternative options.

the Verizon model has been OOS for awhile now, but the AT&T model show available for $1/mo still. does anyone know how the activation timing works with shipping and what qualifies as acceptable to get the activation/plan refunded? It shows as an 8 day shipping time.

I ordered on 29th oct, rcvd on 3rd nov evening, cancelled on 4th nov over phone, paid off device $36 on the call before cancelling, rep confirmed no activation or other charges will be there. a month and half later verizon says they started charging e on 29th october and added activation fees and asking me 61 bucks, these companies are a joke, who pays 26 (61-activation of 35) for their cheating to start the payment on 29th when i don't even have the phone. Wow, I am not doing this again, not worth the hassle dealing with these cheating companies.
