Seems like you'd be better off with the new 4k Onn from Walmart for the same price?? onn. Google TV 4K Streaming Box (New, 2023), 4K UHD resolution https://www.walmart.com/ip/2835618394
Most recent On 4k @ $20 regular price is far better value than this. I've had (and still have) different versions of Chromecast, but I use Onn 4k on 3 of my TVs now.
more stable compares to fire tv stick(s)

Highly recommended!

Is it true for new device purchases? I've chromecast and wanted to be sure. Can someone else confirm this? TIA.

Unless you have one... and it doesnt get along with your yamaha reciever. Have to fuss with it to get the audio working each time i turn on. Considering grabbing this to replace the onn 4k
I have onn 4k works great with my Yamaha receiver. Excellent 5.1 sound & i have smart plugs that turn on the receiver & subwoofer whenever the onn turns on. One press of the onn remote turns on the whole system.

The ONN devices are just not comparable in terms of quality or reliability. I still have first Gen Chromecast devices in use for certain things. I've seen ONN devices fail a lot.
This is simply not true. The ONN is superior to the GCCWTV. I have 4 ONNs and a couple GCCWTVs and much prefer the ONN.

Can it run iptv
Yes.

Legal IPTV, just download the service's app.

Black market IPTV, use an app they provide or user Smarters IPTV or Tivimate.

I have both this device (got it for $11 a couple of months ago when Staples had a firesale on them) and the Onn 4K from Walmart. The Onn is far better - absolutely no comparison. For the same price the Onn supports 4K, is slightly more responsive (Chromecast HD is noticeably sluggish), and has a far better remote - yes it has a mic built in, plus quick buttons which I've programmed with Launcher Manager, pgup/pgdn keys, a profile selection button and a quick jump button to settings. 100% recommend getting the Onn instead. The only negative (IMO) with the Onn box is the form factor - I'm not a fan of the hockey-puck devices. You can't really hide them behind your TV unless you tape them on. Including a pic of the Onn remote (left) and Chromecast HD remote (right).

At least the Onn is black like everything else behind the TV. the GCTV is white and stands out regardless of where it is.

I have one of these and my biggest gripe is that I can't get it to power off the USB from the TV it's connected to. I have 2 of the older gen Chromecast that can get power from the TV's USB to run but this one is the only one I have that requires being powered from a wall charger. I've tried it with several different TV's in the house but no luck and hate that I can't just tuck it away behind a device.

if you have one outlet behind the TV, just get one of these splitters: https://www.amazon.com/Splitter-3...118&sr=8-6

does it have free live TV? My ONN TV box remote has google TV but it is subscription only. Total waste of remote control real estate.
It depends on what you mean by live TV. Almost any device you can get apps that have live TV services -- both paid and free. There are several free "live" TV services that offer streaming channels such as Pluto TV, Tubi, and even Redbox has some built-in. But they are streaming only channels curated for apps such as these. If you're looking for live broadcast or cable channels, then you're going to have to pay. Live broadcast channels (local channels, that is) can only be accessed through an antenna. There are devices that allow you to attach an antenna and then stream from that device to a streaming device, but you'll have to pay for the device. Live cable channels can only be accessed through service providers (cable, satellite, or streaming services like Hulu TV, YouTube TV, and Sling), which will charge you a subscription fee.

I'm not sure what you mean by Google TV and having a subscription. Google TV is just a platform to access all your streaming apps from one place. Instead of switching between apps, you can just access everything through the Google TV app, which sees what apps you have installed and gives you options to access your shows from there. It also puts together your live TV options such as Pluto, Tubi, and others (as well as those you subscribe to such as YouTube TV). So it's not a separate subscription. It's just an all-in-one place to find all of your options, both paid and free. But if you are wanting to access channels that would normally only be offered from a paid subscription, then you'll have to pay for that subscription.

While lots of TVs have apps, not all of them are great. I have one TV that is not smart and a Vizio that's considered "smart", but the apps are limited (even the newest Vizio TVs aren't great for apps). So these are great for those types of TVs. I'm even considering getting something like this for my daughter's Roku TV because it's super slow and can't even run Netflix properly. So using a better streaming device might be my best option without buying a new TV. Not only that, but some prefer the user interfaces of some streaming devices, such as Google TV or Apple TV, and they typically can run better than some smart TVs (depending on what you have). Plus these will allow you to stream from a Chrome browser or Android device (Apple TV will allow you to stream from Safari, a Mac, or your iOS device). And they have Google assist (or Siri for Apple TV) built-in if you like that option.

Another vote for the Onn device. I have a gen 1, gen 2, and a newer Chromecast. Onn is definitely a better experience. I bought the Chromecast in the brief period between the Onn gen 1 and 2 where you couldn't find devices anymore, and just needed something. The Chromecast isn't bad, per se, I just prefer the Onn, and it's overall lower-priced for same-or-better experience across the board.

Yeah, for not of these devices, a USB port from a TV is not enough power. Especially if you add a hub to it to get extra storage or lan

Got the 4K Chromecast when I changed my living room TV from a Vizio to an LG and lost proper Chromecast support on it and been pretty happy with it - though that and Moonlight are the only things it's used for. Need another box just for casting so I'm torn between another Google box or trying the Onn.

TV versions of apps can often be multiple versions behind or no longer updated depending on the TV and the app. There's additional parties collecting your data when going through the TV. The TV performance is usually well below even basic boxes, and TV wired networking is typically only fast ethernet. Only certain TV brands and models will have Chromecast built in, and even if it does it might not run it right (have Android TVs that apps work fine on but the Chromecast is unusable).
