Is this a good deal?

Which speaker is the best for this price (around $150)?

Thanksgiving is coming, not sure if there will be better deals.

For reference, this speaker is often $200 on Amazon; though its current price on Amazon is higher at the moment. Previous version of the Onyx line usually goes down to $100 regularly once the new generation is out. If you want the latest generation, this seems to be the lowest price thus far for version 8. Just for awareness — as an alternative, you can often get this same speaker (ver 8) factory renewed for $130 on Amazon; though it's more expensive right now.

Some differences between ver 7 and ver 8. Version 8 has Bluetooth 5.2, while ver 7 has Bluetooth 4.2. And so ver 8 can connect to multiple devices at the same time. Also latency might be lower on ver 8 (useful when watching video). Version 8 also includes a microphone for phone calls which ver 7 does not have. Finally, version 8 can be charged via a 2-pin power cord, while ver 7 needs an adapter with a barrel pin connector.

Personally, my biggest issue with this speaker is that it still does not support USB-C charging. Two pin power cord, or barrel charger are fine for a static smart speakers. However this is a portable speaker with an internal battery. There are plenty of devices out there with even larger batteries than this speaker, which support USB-C charging. This is an extremely stupid design decision that they made. Who keeps a two-pin cable just for charging?

This is a solid deal. I picked up an 8 for $149 on Amazon about a month ago, and a 7 about 6 months ago for $120 so I would say this is a going sale price. As far as sound it's great. don't get it wet and it will serve you well. I love the deep bass and high notes all sound clear. I have a set of kef's for my office and Def Tech for home, so that is the quality sound I enjoy, your ears may not find the same enjoyment.
