you can make a bypass button; use as bookmark on phone and computer.
Mine is like this:
http://pi.hole/admin/api.php?disable=60&auth=

Disables pihole for 60 secs.
Your auth would need to be generated.

If you are buying this to run services or desktop replacement, just go with an Intel n95 or n100 mini pc. They are still 2x faster than the pi 5 and 4-5x faster than pi 4. By the time you buy a case and storage and power supply for the pi 5, you could just have a better mini pc that runs windows or any Linux version and you don't have to buy more for it.

what are these even good for nowadays
Quite a few things, but my very favorite is a Pi board running Home Assistant (preferably running local network-only smart home devices). As well as controlling all of your smart devices, HA on a Pi 4 or better can also easily run the free AdGuard Home add-on at the same time, which not only serves as a great network-wide ad blocker, but also does a fantastic job of blocking cloud-tied/non-local network devices from constantly reporting on you (I'm looking at you Roku, etc.).No need for a Pi Hole if you have this. Lately, I've been enjoying building some of my own ESP32-based sensors/devices to run with this setup as well (a few cams, a PIR sensor, and soon, voice control). The parts for these are quite often under $12, and as expected, Home Assistant can communicate with all of these sensors & devices very easily via the free ESPHome add-on.

Personally, I can't even imagine using another smart home system at this point, and a Pi 4 or 5 runs it all just fine. Ultra-small, cheap, silent, powerful enough for stuff like this, and barely uses any electricity.

At this price you might as well buy a mini PC. Yeah the prices on Ali have gone up but there are plenty of alternatives.

Check out dell wyse on eBay.

The people running the foundation are incompetent, as they haven't figured out supply chain management after a decade.

Like others I sold my Pi's during the great shortage and now run micro form factor PCs. You have to watch for deals on eBay but I just bought another one two weeks ago: an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 with an i7-9700T, 16 GB RAM, 512GB NvME, WiFi6, 3 Display Ports, Type-C, etc, all for $125 plus another $20 for a replacement power adapter.

If you need GPIO, get the Pi. If not, get something else.

Every time a pi5 thread is posted someone says this and everytime I go to look for these mythical $80 n100 micro pcs and come up short. All the ones I see are $150+ so where are the n100s for $80 that actually compete with the pi5 on price ($80 is the 4gb with PSU and case BTW.)
You are not going to find an $80 n100 box, as that's outrageously cheap for what it is. I paid $109 for my Trigkey N95 box a couple of weeks back on Amazon (sold out currently). For that you get an all in one unit that boots into a fully activated windows 11 install. 8GB ram. 256Gb NVME SSD. WiFi 6. Power supply. Case. HDMI cables. So you are talking only $30 more than the pi 5 8GB, for a much better pc. Beelink s12 should be around $120 for an n95 version. I've seen n100 units for as low as $130.

I installed Debian Bookworm on it, and it is impressively fast and still idles in the single digit watts.

unless you actually need GPIO or have space constraint, it's a rather weak machine for that $80 money. But again, know your use-case and buy accordingly.

This ship has sailed.

The best value has far and away been the Orange Pi line for the past three years.

Pi-hole and your own DNS.

Due to the scarcity, I ended up doing Docker containers on my linux based router for Pi stuff. And you can do an awful lot with a used Nvidia Shield if your apps support android.

Not sure I wanna pay ~$100 for a Pi.

They sell everything they can make for commercial digital signage for stores and billboards. That keeps pushing the prices higher.

auth=PWHASH Where PWHASH is the value of WEBPASSWORD in /etc/pihole/setupVars.conf

That is from pihole developer.

Here's the "mythical" cheap x86 sbc. $120 on amazon, sells for <100 regularly on the secondary market.

https://www.amazon.com/youyeetoo-...B0CCY34J3P

Edit: price from aliexpress is $106 before coupons. I won't post the link, because when I do that to convenience others, the post gets deleted.

Search for "youyeetoo x1"

I see a cheap arcade1up cabinet near me....this is tempting me to build. Only I can't decide if I should go with the ALU cabinet or arcade1up with custom Rom with this. Price would be about the same after mods hmmm.

I use mine to run HomeBridge to link unsupported items to HomeKit. For example, a Reolink doorbell, some Govee lights, Tapo cameras all play nice together
or you could use it to run homeassistant to make everything talk with everything else and be fantastic!
