Personally, I can't even imagine using another smart home system at this point, and a Pi 4 or 5 runs it all just fine. Ultra-small, cheap, silent, powerful enough for stuff like this, and barely uses any electricity.
Check out dell wyse on eBay.
The people running the foundation are incompetent, as they haven't figured out supply chain management after a decade.
If you need GPIO, get the Pi. If not, get something else.

I installed Debian Bookworm on it, and it is impressively fast and still idles in the single digit watts.

The best value has far and away been the Orange Pi line for the past three years.
Due to the scarcity, I ended up doing Docker containers on my linux based router for Pi stuff. And you can do an awful lot with a used Nvidia Shield if your apps support android.
Not sure I wanna pay ~$100 for a Pi.
They sell everything they can make for commercial digital signage for stores and billboards. That keeps pushing the prices higher.
That is from pihole developer.

Edit: price from aliexpress is $106 before coupons. I won't post the link, because when I do that to convenience others, the post gets deleted.
