you can make a bypass button; use as bookmark on phone and computer.
Mine is like this:
http://pi.hole/admin/api.php?disable=60&auth=

Disables pihole for 60 secs.
Your auth would need to be generated.

If you are buying this to run services or desktop replacement, just go with an Intel n95 or n100 mini pc. They are still 2x faster than the pi 5 and 4-5x faster than pi 4. By the time you buy a case and storage and power supply for the pi 5, you could just have a better mini pc that runs windows or any Linux version and you don't have to buy more for it.

I have four Pis -- 2 are 4Bs. For 18 months during the pandemic I had one running a MariaDB database and Nginx web server that displayed daily YouTube links for a live class I was streaming from home. I also have Pihole on it and Volumio on another for music.

But I recently bought a $200 Beelink mini computer with a N100 processor,16 GB of RAM,dual Intel NICs, and Windows OS that idles at 11 Watts. For me it can do so much more than a Pi. I have used to learn Proxmox and pfSense. I also runs full Linux distros. I know it costs more than a Pi and can't do all the projects a Pi can, but with a Pi you have the added costs of a case, power supply and maybe a mini HDMI cable and SD card.

thats pretty slick

but as far as i know not ever router can do hairpin connections (aka connect to your own external ip)

i might set this up, it does sound kind of useful
My local dns has a wildcard record pointing all subdomains for my domain at the LAN ip of my reverse proxy server which avoids the hairpin route but that's not always possible. I never messed with reverse proxy until i got heavy into docker but it is a handy and flexible tool.

In my opinion, there's no point in buying a rasberry pi if it's gonna be at this price point. You might as well get a dedicated tiny pc or chromebool. To each one their own, though.
I need something that is low enough power to run off a 12v battery for 2 days but powerful enough to run home assistant & esphome. The RPis for that middle ground nicely

I'm dumb. What do you do with the Docker containers on your NAS? I understand what Docker containers are for, but what's the use case here? Thanks.
This is a very broad question, will be different for everyone and requires researching and learning on your part to look into why any given container may or may not be useful to you. But, just to get you started, I can give you a quick list of some containers I run that are the most useful:
  • Pi-Hole
  • Plex
  • Portainer
  • Home Assistant
  • HomeBridge
  • Scrypted
  • Speedtest-Tracker
  • OpenSpeedTest
  • MeTube
  • JDownloader-2
  • qBitTorrent
  • Calibre-Web

So why not go for a cheaper version of pi? The point was this price point doesn't make sense to me. But I can see specific use cases needing it, just not everyday ones. I'd very well buy a refurbished fire tablet or a pc and do the trick.

Agree on the use, but is it expensive to spend this much for that purpose ? How about pico w or zero?
I sometimes use a range of them at the other end with a cheap Z-Wave card, ADC/DAC, opto-coupler, relay module, etc.

I believe the point is that for most workloads that people have in their minds, running multiple VMs on an inexpensive MFF PC is far more cost-effective and offers superior performance.
Uh, who tries to run multiple VMs on a Pi??

They are trying to tell people this is a "computer", but most people will not buy it for a computer replacement. Maybe very few people would do that.
I once built a DVR out of a Pi 3b. It's great for little projects but not really made for a desktop replacement.

Is this the most solid recommendation to run Homebridge? Just don't wanna overkill if I can get away with something even cheaper.

If you do not need GPIO/SPI/I2C/etc lines for commands/control of various external non "computer" hardware, no. I would use the micro-PC De jure with a USB Z-wave/Zigbee/etc wireless card (if needed to interface with wireless sensors)

I use mine to run HomeBridge to link unsupported items to HomeKit. For example, a Reolink doorbell, some Govee lights, Tapo cameras all play nice together
Link to how to do it
