Coretex-A53 CPU and doesn't look like it supports any HDR formats (including HDR) and it only lists "Dolby Audio" meaning it probably is like the AppleTV and forces processing all audio on the device. If you have an older 4K TV or don't care about things like HDR, might be OK for the price, assuming it's legitimately licensed to use Netflix and the like. The extra $20 for the Google branded device at least gets you Coretex-A55 cores and it definitely supports things like DolbyVision. From what I can tell, passthrough audio's problematic at best, but if you only have a cheap 2.0 or 2.1 soundbar, it's probably fine if a bit slow.

They're both heavily subsidized by the amount of personal data they can harvest about you and your viewing habits.

I have both. There are plusses and minus to each.

The CCwGTV 4k does do Atmos and HDR, the Onn does only up to DD+ and faux HDR w/ no HLG. Not sure on 10bit, didn't really try but they do HD 10 bit.

The google remote sucks for usability, the Onn remote will flake and lose connectivity but is WAY nicer to use d2d.

The Onn will hardware decode AV1, the 4k CCwGTV will not. The new HD CCwGTV will though.

So if you don't need advanced audio formats (you can stream them raw to the receiver) and want AV1 hardware decode then the

Onn is the best of the worst players (pricewise) because they both have low RAM and low storage on board. You can use OTG to expand both of them and add a dongle for wired ethernet.

The 2nd gen Onn box resolved the remote issue which is the only one Walmart is selling now. To confirm it's 2nd Gen the box will show Google TV on it instead of Android TV. But I agree the remote that cames with Onn is great support both BT and infrared to control TV's directly.

As for HDR, not sure what you mean by faux HDR, seems to work fine on my 4k Bedroom TV, but I'm not overly concern with that stuff on secondary TVs and most people won't really care even on primary TV.

Low RAM isn't an issue for streaming, but for gaming the low RAM may be a problem...YMMV...but for hard core gamers I probably wouldn't suggest these lower priced boxes in general.

Yeah I had a remote issue this week w/ a second gen. I had already replaced two first gen. I believe the issue w/ the first gen was the bluetooth module and you could reflow it. I too thought it was solved, but alas I had a new one where I had to do a full reset for the audio control to work correctly again.

As somebody who owns first and second gen onn and Chromecast 4K I'm going to add my input.

The second gen still has Bluetooth issues with the remote and in general.

I use my device for game streaming with moonlight and sunshine and I will say that if you want a stable Bluetooth connection avoid the onn box.

When using onn box with a DS4 controller it stops communicating constantly and will eventually just completely freeze and reset the box. Bluetooth on the Chromecast 4K works great though

I would not recommend anyone to purchase the 4K Chromecast, after the Android 12 update the device is extremely sluggish at all times and the only solution is either restarting it or force closing all open applications. Also the wifi performance is really bad. I would recommend getting either a Nvidia Shield or a 4k/4k Max Firestick.

This is the play. The big knock is the Onn doesn't support Dolby Vision while the Chomecast does. If your TV supports it you should get the chromecast.
