I have been looking for a budget friendly jacket for winter and came across REI Co-op Stormhenge Down Hybrid Jacket. Right now the price is $279 and I know in that past it was 50% lower. With inflation I wasn't sure if it will ever go that low and so I chatted with an agent and she mentioned that there will be a sale from Nov 10 through 20 called Gear up Get out sale and the price for this would be $195 which is $85 less than the actual MSRP. I just wanted to post this so that people who are looking to buy a good warm jacket can plan accordingly .
THIS DEAL IS NOT LIVE YET . Please be kind if I'm too early but thought it might help someone

Most down jackets are not waterproof. When down gets wet, it does not keep its loft, therefore you lose some heat.

It's also far too heavy to take on a cold weather backpacking trip where you'd be better off layering base, down, shell for sure.
It has a place and is very well made, but it's not all-purpose for sure.

For wearing around the city this is totally fine
The new one is "hybrid". They are adding poyester fill insulation with the 850 down. Mine has nothing but 850 down. They claim, "synthetic insulation prevents wet-out at cuffs", so maybe that's a valid change. Personally if I'm really worried about wetting out, I'm wearing individual layers and I'm not wearing down.
As far as the original stormhenge, there's nothing close for the price. Waterproof shell, adjustable hood, adjustable wrists, adjustable hem, pit zips, lots of 850 down, a way more resilient outer fabric than a typical down puffer. It was almost flawless. The new hybrid is obviously a step down, but it's still a nice jacket. I'd want to pay less now that they are offering less.
Even though it's DWR treated shell and down, I'd not buy a down jacket if you might be in cold and wet for long periods of time. For strenuous hikes, I'd rather have synthetics that dry out easier, and it's probably too warm most of the time anyway. Really a nearly perfect casual winter jacket though. Warm, comfy, ready for rain.
