Bought this CPU, returned it immediately. Even on my high end Noctua cooler, this CPU throttles constantly and i cant get near anywhere near its rated boost clocks in benchmarks.

I wouldn't buy this CPU unless you have a very good water cooling setup.

Why would you try and air cool an i9? For at least the last 3 generations there's been an excessive amount of reports that tell you to get an AIO, at LEAST.

This is tempting but that MB has terrible reviews on Newegg with a lot of DOA reports.

The direct link to the bundle page is now displaying a price of $964.96, however it shows up as $699.99 when you add it to cart. Edit: It's fixed now, I'll leave this here in case the website has issues again.

I'd almost jump on that if it didnt have an MSI MB. I don't prefer them, ASUS only. I've had incompatibility with MSI and truenas for instance, but if you're just running windows you'll be fine!

Recently got the 13900k bundle of this - same mobo as this listing. I personally didn't have any issues with the installation. My first MSI board and overall things went well.

Couple things to reiterate:
  • Make sure you have a great power supply to support the needs of this beast + whatever GPU
  • Install the memory slots in the right channels (DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 slots first)
  • Make sure you have a cooling solution that can handle the temps - Water cooling preferred.

Awesome write up for this post. Thank you for outlining details on these components. It seems waiting for a sale on the 13the gen makes more sense because of the limited performance jump and heat the 14th gen brings. If is a refresh not a real generartional jump

Why would you buy a rebadged 13900K bundle when you could just buy the 13700k bundle for 500, that i7 is PLENTY for what people need, i9s are overkill unless you have cash to blow or you actually need it for high-intensity workloads
14 is 1 better than 13, obvs.

In all seriousness this is a pretty good deal, but that motherboard does have sus reviews and let's face it, there's no upgrade path. 15th Gen will use a new socket.

You need 360mm aio or custom loop to cool this piece of shit

high end noctuas easily outperform most aios.
this is a chip issue. it's been well documented that even 280mm AIOs can't keep it from almost immediately throttling.

Exactly. I have a D15 and only the 360mm closed looped AIOs are a meaningful upgrade over the Noctua. The EK Nucleus would be a good option but it costs 200 dollars alone.

I could probably build my own custom loop solution for a little more than 200 bucks and that would include a pump and water tank.

Any way you put it, spending 200 dollars just to reach adequate cooling is not a good look.
