I personally can't think of a use case where I would be concerned enough about accuracy to bother using a set of calipers, but at the same time have complete disregard for the accuracy as to use a $5 plastic set of calipers…

I have an expensive Swiss caliper for when things really matter, but often use a cheap one like this to set to the thickness of something and then compare to other somethings (usually without even installing the battery). For example, snug this down on a screw or bolt to get it's diameter, then compare to drill bits in order to choose one for a perfect hole.

Must be YMMV because it's $5.34 including tax for me. I clicked on in store pickup and I'm logged into my account.

Edit: Looks like the store that's around the block from my house doesn't show that price, but the next closest one (56 miles away) shows the sale price SMH

I use my old harbor freight one to size hardware and various electrical and plumbing fittings. Just put a piece of tape over the last digit and it's plenty accurate :-)

I'm not a fan of digital calipers/micrometers. I'll stick with my tried and true analog spi/mitutoyo. But if you don't have any yet, for the price you can't go wrong here. Replacement battery will probably cost more.

Very good for 3d printing and modeling.
Never a bad thing to have these on hand when your $25 Neiko's are out of reach and Harbor Freight sells this weird-ass slanted-font one.

I have a decent caliper, by iGaging, cost around $50 a bit over a year ago on Amazon. I use it occasionally but for quick and rough measurements I find myself reaching for my Harbor Freight plastic one that cost around $2. It's only accurate to around 1-2mm but that's fine for anything bigger that 1-2cm if you're only looking for an integral size, like trying to determine the size of a hex bolt or pipe inner or outer diameter. Also has a depth gauge. Amazing how the tools you use most often tend to be the cheapest ones, like those clip-on mini screwdrivers.
