is it worth upgrading from 5800x?
Even If you already have the most highest end GPU then the 7800x3d will only improve frames by a few % but if your GPU is a rx 6700 xt or something mid range then upgrading the cpu and platform makes no improvement for you

The ram kits seem to be complete lottery. I got good kits that do 6000mhz at 30-34-34-38 primary timing at 1.4v and was able to push other timings similar to buildzoids Samsung kits. But I purchased mine early on so my bundle was only 32gb for 7900x bundle when the 7700x bundle was $500. Prices are constantly dropping on the cpu mobo ram side while gpu prices stays stagnant for the most part.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

a 4090 is barely maxing out PCIE 3.0 so unless nvidia comes up with something substantial for the 5000 series, having PCIE 4.0 is still good enough for years to come.

the 7800x3d not only performs better than an i9, but also does so at a much lower TDP. even though the CPU has TDP of 120w, it actually doesn't even reach 90w in testing. Intel will reach 109c temperature easily. With this, plus at least 3 years of life for AM5, AMD wins this round easily, and I'm saying this as an Intel fanboy. Last AMD I had was in the Athlon XP days, where AMD again beat Intel quite easily.

I have zero brand loyalty, i will go back to intel if they reclaim the gaming performance crown. Right now, unless you need to care about productivity, stick with AMD with these X3D cpus

there was an issue with 7800x3d burning up or exploding earlier in the year. Did they resolve it?

Yes, fixed in newer BIOS updates.

I don't think this is true. I have an i9-12900K system at home as well as a 5600X system, both of which are on our house lan for gaming and stuff: I just picked this up today, but it's around 20% faster than the 12900K at 1440P with a 4070, and 50% or so faster than the 5600x. The great thing with X3D chips in my experience is the 1% lows - they are smoooooooth. YMMV, but if someone has a reasonably recent GPU this will be a performance bump, though not as much as an GPU upgrade.

Ryzen 5 5600x3d is already dropped to $200 and combo with mobo and 16gb of memory cost $270. Thinking of buying an Ryzen 5000 cpu in a year about now when the Ryzen 8000 cpu's are released.

I say go with the 7900X deal for 64gb for $100 more. 50% more cores, twice the memory, and by concurring, you'll reaffirm my own decision, thus further insulating me from buyers remorse this approaching black Friday.

One advantage to the 7800x3d is that it's insanely efficient. Considerably more performance per watt than the 7700x, let alone the 13700k, thus less heat output, and works perfectly well on relatively cheap air coolers. You'll get back some of what you spend in your electricity bill over the next few years.

I want to get this bundle but the reviews for the memory seem absolutely terrible.

I'll second the ram being the biggest disappointment. Like I mentioned already, I did a build with the 7700X bundle back in August. And I couldn't for the life of me get the ram to EXPO past 5600. And that was using both August released BIOS updates.

AM5 is very finicky with Samsung ram kits (which this bundled ram is). So I swapped the ram to a better, Hynix kit (F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5) which MS actually used to bundle with these. Thankfully MS allowed me to return the bundled ram kit with zero issues. I was able to enable EXPO at 6000 on the new kit by simply enabling the profile in the BIOS. It was as easy as it gets!
I just ordered ram for a 7700x yesterday and my relief was palpable when I realized the part number you listed is what I had ordered, as it had already shipped. G. Skill 6000 @ 30, right? https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32..._-11062023

Thank you for writing the number out. I have Hynix crucial on my 5600x and it's been amazing, so this is a pleasant surprise.

The 7900X is more application/work focused. The 7800x3D is more Gamer focused. Decide what you use your computer for the most and that's your answer.
