So for light use the i-3 isn't a bad choice. I guess it depends what you'll be using it for and if it's worth the extra processing power, storage, and RAM for $90. I personally think it is.
At Outlet/Refurb its 50% off. My upgrade config from 8/256 to 16/512 was just $25 at Dell. Separate would have been $15 for Hynix 8gb, $40 for Samsung 512gb
This post from user "greypoint" sums up the device nicely:
https://slickdeals.net/f/16991440-dell-inspiron-15-laptop-15-6-12th-gen-intel-core-i5-1235u-8gb-ddr4-256gb-ssd-308-69?p=166449085#
and a correction of the typo: yes, it supports 64GB RAM (2 x 32GB).
i bought this to use a "headless" lab device so the keyboard, display, and hdmi port don't really matter to me.
However, this device doesn't have a wired NIC port either which makes certain things for an always-on, lid-closed laptop tricky.
Trying to have it use wireless 24x7 in this state had all kinds of weird problems that I was able to work around with a $12 USB 3.0 NIC dongle. (I think this partially because "modern standby" on most devices is still a disaster.)

The price isn't impressing me but the specs look good.

I found out about Linux on laptop and I installed Ubuntu on all of my old laptops. That's why they are still working.
By the way, I am testing Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 this week. It comes i3 1215 cpu with 8G RAM and 128G storage. The RAM takes up 5.6G just by starting the chromebook and runining chrome browsers. Even Chomebook demands more than 4G of RAM.
It is the high requirements of OS that drive people to replace the laptop more often.
