Since my heat is electric, I rely on this exact model as a backup in case of power loss in the winter in my two story townhouse. Thankfully, I haven't had the chance to test it during the real power outage, but when I first purchased it two years ago, with outside temperature in the 20s, I intentionally turned off my thermostat for a week to test if the Big Buddy heater would be sufficient. I kept all the windows closed to trap as much heat as possible, and to see if natural ventilation would be sufficient. It is also worth noting that my townhouse benefits from heat from two neighbors on either side.

I ended up running the heater at the medium setting to maintain a comfortable temperature. A 20lb propane tank that I connected Big Buddy to lasted about three and a half days at that level. Neither one of my two carbon monoxide sensors, one of which was positioned right next to the heater, got tripped during the test. I did not experience any symptoms of oxygen depletion (and I believe Big Buddy has a low oxygen sensor built in that tripps at around 16%), but there was a slight propane odor, probably from me plugging and unplugging tanks during testing. Another small benefit during the power outage is that a bit of light this heater emits helps light the room at night.

TL;DR: I wouldn't use it as a primary home heater, but it does seem to be a solid option for emergencies, when paired with a 20lb propane tank.
It really depends on the volume of air. In a full sized house, it is super unlikely to deplete the oxygen. They burn very cleanly once the catalytic plates are fully heated. When I use this in a camper van, I crack a window and run two carbon monoxide detectors.
There is a $20 off $100 coupon also. You have to find a filler to get over $100. I bought the fuel filter that's needed for the 20lb tank hookup. Had to pay shipping for that but the part and shipping was around $20 so it was basically getting it free

I have 2 of these for emergency heating when the power goes out. I just bought the 3rd one with the $20 off coupon because these are handy to have. I just refill the 1lb cylinders and have brass caps on them for storage. They can be used for emergency heating , camping and to warm up a smaller area when you don't necessarily want to heat the whole house to a higher temp. I have saved $$$ on my heating bill by using it to warm up the BR for a shower without heating up the whole house to the higher temp.

is this really safe for indoor use?
You know the answer to that irrespective of what they say. A single propane gas stove puts out as much benzene as cigarette smoking does. You can imagine how much crap this is spewing into your house.

Safe from asphyxiation yes... There was a YouTube channel that even put one of these in a small air stream trailer for a long period of time and used measured CO levels with sensitive equipment. It hardly registered. as for overall long term health? I wouldn't use this thing daily winter after winter. Occasionally, sure.

Not sure if this was commented yet, but I added some gloves for .69 (cheapest thing I could find) and then applied coupon: 283705 for $20 off $100.

Picked one up from Cabela's the last time northern tool had them on sale. Perhaps a couple weeks ago for less than $60. It's refurbished, but looks new and the the Cabela's models have a fan you can turn on.

This is the best price you will find, other than close out deal. Love mine. Mine has a fan. Mostly use it for ice fishing. On low heat with fan can save some fuel. When it is cold and you need high heat the fan dies not make a big difference.
