Looks like $809.99 for Samsung EPP just as an FYI for me.

The reported flaw with a displayport cable is a deal-killer for me (goes to sleep and requires a PC reset), certainly for such an expensive monitor.

I got the 49" OLED G9 for an insane deal a week or two ago ($800). Only thing that has me annoyed is that it sometimes doesn't wake from sleep correctly. I was told this was fixed with a firmware update. This was wrong.

For me in Linux I just have to wait for the computer to turn the screen off again (like 20 seconds) before I jam on the keyboard and it wakes up. Annoying, but I'll get over it.

I was told that all you need to do is turn the monitor back on. Not saying that is okay, but not restart the PC.

Hows this one measure up against the alienware/dell for fps gaming? Thanks for the answers, a lot of you guys are much more knowledgable than I.

Wow! How were you able to get this monitor for 800 USD?

Im looking at this for a productivity monitor but it looks like text is kind of blurry. IPS remains the kind if you need clear text.

I had this issue when I initially got the monitor, however it just randomly stopped... As far as I know, I haven't updated any firmware and configuration is still the same (DP to my 3080).

Fellow SDE here, all of my research points to no on any kind of OLED monitor for productivity. Even more-so if you consistently work with multiple static windows in split. Good chance you develop noticeable burn-in within 6-12 months, even if you employ a whole suite of burn-in prevention techniques.

The text clarity on these 1st-gen QD-OLED panels is also poor due to the sub-pixel layout. Samsung made improvements in burn-in and text clarity with their 2nd gen OLED products, but have only released that tech in their 49" G9. You won't see that for at least another 6 months, maybe upwards a year released in a 34" monitor. Even then the technology may still be inappropriate for majority productivity users.

You're better off with an IPS monitor. LG has some solid offerings in that category that I personally have been eyeing myself.

They are so incredibly similar. I highly recommend rtings as a review website. Biggest reason to get Samsung over Dell is console compatibility. If you don't care about that, or don't care about 4K on console or HDR on console (in my experience doesn't matter) then just go for the cheapest one OR whichever you find most aesthetically pleasing.
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/samsung-odyssey-oled-g8-g85sb-s34bg85-vs-dell-alienware... [rtings.com]

Samsung G8 || Alienware AW3423DW
Mixed usage: 8.7 || 8.7
Office: 8.0 || 8.1
Gaming: 9.0 || 8.7 (alienware was low due to increased latency specifically at 60 hz)

Media Creation: 8.8 || 9.0
HDR: 9.2 || 9.3
Build Quality: 8.5 || 8.5
Ergonomics: 6.4 || 6.9 (I recommend a monitor arm anyway)

HDR Brightness: 6.6 || 7.1
Horizontal Viewing Angle: 10 || 10
Vertical Viewing Angle: 9.9 || 9.9
Gray Uniformity: 8.8 || 8.5
Black Uniformity: 10 || 10
Color Accuracy (pre-calibration): 8.0 || 9.3 (dell tends to do good here)
Color Accuracy (post-calibration): 8.5 || 9.6
SDR Color Gamut: 9.7 || 9.8
SDR Color Volume: 10 || 10
HDR Color Gamut: 9.6 || 9.6
HDR Color Volume: 9.5 || 9.4
Reflections: 9.4 || 9.4
Text Clarity: 7.0 || 7.0 (I've never had a more clear monitor, idk)

Image Flicker: 10 || 10
Input Lag: 8.4 || 8.2
Resolution And Size: 8.4 || 8.4
PS5 Compatibility: 9.0 || 7.0 (good reason to get the samsung here)
--> Samsung support 4k @ 60hz, but the dell does not. no idea why.
Xbox Compatibility: 9.2 || 5.8 (another good reason to get samsung)
--> Dell doesn't support HDR, nor does it support 4k @60
