Bought this in 2019 right after it came out for $1149. I actually have 2 QNAP devices and both are blocked at the firewall from ever seeing the light of day because of an endless array of security vulnerabilities. Overpriced because of that but it serves a purpose for backups and as a media center data store.
Horrible price for what it is. Can make a mini ITX build with motherboards taking anywhere from 3-6 x M.2 NVMe drives with the power efficient CPU of your choice and a very small form factor case. Could add 10gbe, a low profile or external GPU and STILL be cheaper than this. I purchased a QNAP 3 x 3.5 and 3 x M.2 NAS back in 2020 for $373. It had a 10gb SFP+ port and continues to work like a champ. I don't see a very good value in this at all, unless you absolutely don't want to have to think about doing anything but sticking some drives in it.
But even THAT use case scenario is hard to believe, because you're going to have to go through some non-trivial work to set up the drives, RAID them how you want them, make user accounts and permissions, do updates, set up share folders over your network, etc...
And I find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that if you know how to do all of that, you somehow don't know how to assemble a simple miniITX small form factor PC (as a NAS) that could do MORE than this QNAP and cost HALF the price. I also think that if you're into this high end of NAS device, you're also smart enough to realize that you could afford your entire array of drives if you built your own, rather than buy this empty, overpriced (but pretty) shell.
