I replaced them with cast iron ones from York. Not a slick deal though. They were 5-50lb set shipped around 1k. I'm happy with them. Just beware, I didn't want my kids going down in the basement because of the smell.

Buy a billion of them and keep the non smelly ones lol..
I all seriousness, I heard it needs to cure via UV light from the sun. Which I'm guessing is the step manufacturers skipped to save $$.
Others claim to leave it outside to "off gas" them.
Not sure which is correct.
I wiped mine down and left them out on the patio for days (if not weeks) and they still smelled when I brought them inside. That said, the smell does dissipate over time. As long as you're ok putting up with that for a while, they still end up being a good value. If you're sensitive to it, I don't see a world where these would be for you.
Edit: also, I do recommend wiping these down thoroughly, as the oily coating that come on them leave black marks on stuff at first (e.g. dragging them across the carpet).
Edit 2: I snagged mine at $.60-.75/lb, so yes, these have been cheaper (and I'm waiting to snag more at those prices if it ever happens)
