Is magnacut as good as advertised? Haven't got anything with it yet.

It'll be my first, but here's a detailed writeup with data from the creator of it: https://knifesteelnerds.com/2021/...-magnacut/

I understand the positive reviews of the Leek but for my use the blade shape is more of a negative than useful. Magnacut is a good blade but if you don't really need high corrosion resistance, some of the other premium steels could be had for a lower price.

Thanks for the article.

I will be keeping an eye out for a Magnacut knife. I did carry a Leek for a while but it is really too small for my hand. I need something around 3.5" or so. Something as thin as the Leek would be great and it sounds like Magnacut would be the perfect steel.

I like to collect knives but I've never found a good Leek deal before. Is this about as cheap as you can get it??

No but it depends on the steel, this is more high end others can definitely be had for less.

Maybe the Hogue mentioned above will be for you then.

I was just actually looking at it. Still a bit on the small side.

The thing I found strange is that site has the Magnacut version on sale for less than the other Deka sale prices.

The article above seems to say it excels in toughness as well..

I mostly would buy this for the street cred that one gets with purple and the word "edge" featured

It actually excels in all three categories they look for in knives. Toughness, corrosion resistance and edge Resistance. Magnacut does well in all three. My point is, there are some steels could that do better in toughness and edge retention and could be had at a lower price than some magnacut knives.

Ditto this. The leek is fun to flip, but I find the blade awkward to use in most cases. At around the same price point, I reach for my 15 year old spyderco delica every time.

Magnacut is the best steel on the market right now. It will soon be the standard premium steel. With that said I wouldn't pay $95 for a Kershaw leek. Magnacut or not, I used to buy these for $30.
