Yea...no. 6950 xt is slightly slower then a 7900 xt on avg (7%ish depending on what games you cherry pick). 4080 is equivalent to like a 7900xtx on avg. Note, the 6950 is half the cost of the 4080.

I've been looking at the 6950XT. But I think I'll wait and see what holiday prices are like. I think AMD and these retailers are going to want to clear out the last of the previous gen cards, so we might get some excellent deals.
