TIP: if you wash your rice in the sink in the metal pot it comes with dry off the outside, water doesn't mix well with rice cooker coils, over time it will ruin them.
As long as you use the included plastic utensils and don't scrub it with a harsh sponge, it should last a long time.
I've had one that started scratching after about 15 years.
